Thanks for the reply. As for wishing me luck, I'm not the one who needs it. A friend of mine fell for one of those emails posing as ebay and asking for all his personal info. He gave them everything including bank acccount #, SS# and drivers license#. Luckily he was able to change his ebay password and he also contacted paypal and cancelled his card. What I dont understand is why couldnt paypal contact ebay for him and get the site shut down. They told him he would have to call ebay himself. Who knows how many people will get taken by then. Anybody know if its possible to change a driver license# and a SS#?

Can't change SS# or DL#, but your friend needs to contact the bank and all 3 credit bureau's and have their account flagged for possible ID theft. eBaY will keep a decent eye on the account there. PayPal, not sure what they do, but if the passwords were changed, they "should" be okay for online trading, its off line they need to worry about.

Thanks again Landotters. I sent him the link to this thread. I'm hoping he will sign up for an account here so he can ask these type of questions himself.

Thanks,
Tony.

To apply for a new social security # go to your local SS office or call 1-800-772-1213 for info.
Best of Luck to your friend!

I had info requested and foolishly supplied the email , user id and password (got scared, they prey on fear), both id and email stolen, the other day I received a thing from my bank saying my banking account had been compromised, that they were issueing me a new card, to not use the old one, so apparently the thieves weren't as smart as they thought they were, my info of course was in the account they had stolen. I went to eBay live on the home page and asked for help, they cancelled the one auction I didn't list and gave me new pass word, then they called me on the phone and talked with me. I had answered what she called a spoof letter, I was not to be suspended. that might help your friend eBay live...One bad apple spoils the whole bunch...sad but true

He reported the site to ebay monday morning and they still havent shut it down. He called them and they insisted that he report the site via email. You would think they would want to take care of it immediatley. Here is the site:
