It seems that an irate customer has been sending my email address to various types of sites and I am getting getting lots of SPAM email.

I've tried one program, I HATE SPAM but it is far from perfect and it also freezes my outlook program.

Does anyone use a good anti-spam program with outlook that they are VERY satisfied with? thanks.

I use message rules inside Outlook. Are there keywords in the subjects of these sites? If so, you can block certian words (ie., Congratulations, Hair REplacement, etc) Also, I block senders using the right click in Outlook. YOu can look at the properties and find the domain from which these messages are sent and block all mail from that domain (usually something pretty wierd) I tried McAfee but it was too strict. Good luck!

Count me as a Mailwasher fan also. Download it, use it, and give the dude a donation which he richly deserves. It's terrific.

If you want it to work within outlook, try cloudmark.com for a free program. They rely on users to send them spam that made it through their filter, so their filter keeps getting better.

Don't forget that if you add the word "Congratulations" to your list of email title words to be considered spam, that will include all Auction Watch Winning Bidder Notices! And likely Ebay ones as well.

Exactly Patty, which is why I changed the heading of my WBN from Congratulations to "Payment Instructions..." because I was getting too many buyers who had my WBN blocked. Thanks for bringing that up. Mailwasher sounds good will look into that!

You seem to be in a similar situation that my wife was in recently. She had a bad run-in with a seller who shipped faulty merchandise, promised a refund and never sent it. Eventually my wife left the seller a negative. The next day she started getting all sorts of messages from various porn sites. BUT... being the computer savvy person that I am... I was able to view the headers of the e-mails. Inside the headers are all sorts of kinds of interesting information... including originating domain names and IP addresses. By comparing this information to the e-mail address that the seller used, I was able to confirm that they were coming from the same domain source. I was then able to forward the message (complete with headers) to both her ISP and to eBay. We were informed by eBay that she had been sent a notice warning her that any further incidents of this matter would result in the cancellation of her account. The ISP did not respond... but did say that every incident would be looked into and at the very least a warning would be issued (and termination of the account could follow). Anyhow... the bottom line of this story is that things like this are NOT as anonymous as people think they are. There is a trail to trace things on the internet if you know where to look. You might want to consider viewing the headers and contacting eBay and the ISP of this seller. Harrassment should not be tolerated.

Maybe I am missing something on these anti-spam programs.

Mailwasher just seems to move the point of 'sort through' to off of your mail server, but (if I understand it correctly) you still have to sort through all the spam, just at a different location. Plus, it requires you to turn-off your anti-virus software (with older versions of NAV, 2001 and back).

Others, like Mailwiper, just use an 'approved receipt' box, for pass through, so new contact (buyers) get a 'here's what you need to do to contact me message, as if things aren't confussing enough with buyer-seller contact.

So I still have not found one I like, but maybe it's just me being picky!

What I like about mailwasher is the bounce feature. The spammer is given the indication that the email address is no longer valid. I've used it for some time and it has reduced the amount of spam I receive. You can also add any filters you want, but the ability to make your address seem invalid is the tool I enjoy.

I use only a web based mail address for Ebay. Currently it's yahoo. It takes about 3 months for the spammers to find me, then, when that box begins to fill with spam I change to a new address with yahoo, and change my address with
Ebay. It only takes a few minutes and so far has worked well. My home email recieves virtually NO spam. If someone were to spam-bomb me, I'd just change my yahoo address and go on. This isn't foolproof either, but the first thing I tell people who are thinking about signing on to Ebay is "DON'T give them your main home email adress".
