I purchased some videotapes on ebay. Paid with paypal immediately. After 3 days the seller contacts me and says, I am having trouble with your address. UPS does not ship to po boxes.

I write back and tell her that my confirmed address is included with the paypal payment and it is not a PO Box.

She writes back, Well then why does your ebay address show a PO box?

Her last letter says, I guess I will ship these today. Your feedback isn't that bad. You need to update your ebay information so other sellers will not have problems with you.

I just wrote back:

1) My address on file with ebay is of no concern to you. The only thing you need to worry about is if my paypal address is confirmed. It is...end of discusssion.

2) I have purchased from nearly 1000 sellers and ONLY ONE has had a problem with me...guess who...

3) Over 1000 transactions and no negatives isn't bad at all. However your feedback coming in a 96.8% is stunning. I can only dream to reach your feedback greatness.

I have a po box, but it is not listed with paypal. I thought ebay only gave sellers, the state and zipcode, not the full address. Where would she have gotten my full address?

Yes, I am grumpy today....

Where? Everytime I request a user's info all I get is the name, state and zipcode. No street address or PO Box.

I would suspect that this seller has you mixed up with another customer. She doesn't sound all that smart (i.e. the careless insults) but her comments just don't fit your feedback profile, and from what I know, eBay DOESN'T give out PO box numbers.

I'd email her back and ask politely if she's sure she's got the right person, and what address was provided to her. It might be worth it because otherwise, you could end up getting this other customer's video.

Woops, they are right only city and state and phone number...

Just checked the email a seller requested my info...

Of course if your number is listed with an address associated with it, you can get an address easy enough.

msincognito: I tried polite. She sent me, I don't have you confused with ANYONE! I know what ebay showed me. I don't want business from a fraud. I have sent your money back.

I figured out how she got my info.

I paid using paypal. I used the paynow button at the top of the auction. I DID NOT USE CHECKOUT. The button took me straight to paypal for payment.

Now at the top of the auction where the paynow button was it now says "XXXX is the winner. Payment was sent through PayPal. View Summary". If you click on the view summary link it gives ALL of the info ebay has for your registration.

grumpyebayer: is that information available to ANYONE or is it only available to the two parties involved?

I paid for a dress yesterday. Sure enough, it has a "view summary" link that leads to my registration info. I didn't use ebay's check out either.

If the seller is not shipping to the confirmed PayPal address, then the buyer can file a buyer complaint and win

Whenever you click on the paynow button at the top of the closed auction, ebay treats your info the same as if you had gone through checkout.

If you haven't specified a checkout address with ebay then they use the address you have in your registration.

Your checkout address can be different from your registration address, there's a place to change it on the ebay site.

What a rude and paranoid seller! The joys of Ebay. Just when I thought I had heard it all.

I can confirm what grumpyebayer and shop4shoes says. This happened to a friend of mine.

He ordered some bubble mailers . Gave address twice: once on money order, once on envelope. He overnighted the payment to the vendor, that's how badly he needed them.

There was no possible confusion about the address. Thing is, he's up here taking care of a sick relative and has been for the last several months.

You guessed it: the d!psh!t seller sent them to his registered address, where there is no one to receive them.

He emailed the seller to find out what's up, and got the news that the package is on its way back to the vendor.

He hit the ceiling. He says, and I agree, there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for ignoring the ship-to address provided with the payment.

And this wasn't a newbie seller, either. They have four-digit feedback, which is about to be decremented by 1.

He didn't use PayPal. He didn't do Checkout. But he got reamed by this stupid View Summary thing anyway.
