I am shipping something to Canada. For a airmail package the cheapest way, the thing says Max. length 24", Max. length, height, depth combined 36".
My question, is depth considered width? I would always measure the length, width and height... so I am understanding it right?

You are correct. Measure the 3 dimensions and add them together. If they are less than 36 AND your longest measurement is less than 24... then that is the correct shipping quote.

With your mailing label on top, length is right to left, height is up and down and depth is front to back.
