What can I do that a guy left negative feedback on me for no reason? I had sold a Softball Bat bag to a customer over 30 days ago. I had sent a total of 12 emails to the guy pertaing to this item with no response to emails. I look at his feedback and he has 3 positives and 2 negatives. The 2 negatives are from people stating the same thing as me. "No response to emails and no intention of paying". I followed every step of ebay rules trying to contact him. I leave him negative feedback and finally then I get a response within 1 hour. He says he emailed me back every time. He had every intention of paying he said. He called me a liar. I guess the other 2 people were lying to. He snet me a final email saying he had no intention of buying the item that he had found one cheaper the same day. He goes ahead and leaves me negative feedback and says that I was lying and he did return my emails. Could I post the email link that he sent me on my feedback response so everybody can see what he said. Please let me know what to do? Thanks, dave

I don't know what to tell you about responding other than to leave a clear factual non-emotional response.

But, I can add this happened to me my first week on Ebay (over 4 years ago). Since then, I have NEVER left a neg and have not received any either.

I just file FVF and help get them NARU which is all I wanted anyway. The feedback system just does not work fairly as anyone can post the neg for any reason and it wasn't worth it for me.

I rarely read feedback and have never been burned on purchases (and I purchase a lot). I think most negs to sellers, except those saying they never shipped items, are left as retaliatory, or, that they charge excessive shipping or other totally unrelated issues, and do not carry much weight.

I don't know how to explain how to make a link without actually making one, at which point the link-making instructions disappear! If you'll just post the message I'll make a link for you.

In terms of responding, I would agree with lindajean's claim that your response needs to be as calm and factual as possible ... like "this is retaliation for a negative given when he didn't pay" or something like that. However, I would respectfully disagree with her view of negatives. I've never been afraid to leave them when they're truly warranted, because how else are people going to get a heads-up that someone's not trustworthy?

They don't need heads up if you and two other sellers follow through and get your listing fees back. The problem is some sellers give negatives which does little good but harm to themselfs, but do not go through the ebay hoops to get there listing fees back This Fee return action if compounded with other sellers like-type actions would result in the problem buyer being gone. (It only takes three)

With all due respect, it occurs to me that the way you handle a potential problem buyer OR seller, makes all the difference as to how it turns out. Sensing the possibility of someone being the kind of idiot that might post a neg from the start is an important part of the Ebay process. I make it a habit to make sure if someone posts an uncalled for feedback to always respond so that I don't look like a hothead who asked for it. Getting pissed is okay so long as you use that energy properly.I like a response to a negative feedback that I keep but havent had to use yet (knock on wood) that begins "SELLERS NIGHTMARE", or it could be a buyers. It is imperative that buyers and sellers leave feedback for other people and I personally depend on it when buying. For me it weeds out the buttheads who'll attempt to charge an arm and leg for shipping. If you are suspicious, check the feedback of ANYONE you are doing business with, to the extent of reading the details of all negs and neutrals. If you don't, you have no one to blame but yourself if you get screwed. I look in on auctions as they progress to check out who is bidding, and someone who has only 5 feedbacks with 3 negs needs to be eliminated before the auction is over. No matter what someone has told you, you still maintain the right to deal with who you choose. If you're so poor that you think you have to accept bids from just anyone, then you're in trouble. If it's important to you to maintain a decent feedback rating, it takes some effort.

Respond to the negative unemotionally and state something like "buyer never repsonded to emails, never paid".

Report him to Ebay for the threat.

Here's the link to report threats of bodily harm:

Here's the link to handle any feedback threats/issues:

You said he has three positives & two negatives & yet you accepted his bid & others will too. So, the sellers that negged him probably got one back from him as well.
So what good did it do for you to take that chance. File for FVF & move on & think twice about the risk negging deadbeats, it's useless & not worth it.

Negative FB does not really hurt a buyer, just a seller. Most sellers are too busy to check the FB of all their bidders anyway, I never do.

If I negged every deadbeat I've had in my four years on eBay I just might have about fifty or so negs
and then again maybe not, but I would not take that chance for something that does no good at all. I really don't care what kind of FB my buyer has, I only care about a sellers.

I leave feedback for sellers (positive or negative) but never leave negatives for buyers. Don't see the use of it and it might hurt me. If someone doesn't pay me, I file to get my ebay fees back. I'd much rather fellow sellers did the same thing. If three different sellers do it, the buyer gets kicked off.
