What is the best way to ship to Japan? The box wieghs about 1.5 lbs. I always tack 19.95 s/h onto international orders to cover this. Until now no one has ordered from anywhere except canada.

Whats the scoop? USPS - UPS or Fedex?

Japan is not known for mail fraud that I know of and his email is from .jp and he has a japanese name, however the paypal address is unconfirmed. But then again so is mine.

As a international user, he can't confirm his address. Japanese buyers are considered by most sellers to be the most sought after. As you have discovered, they pay quickly and do not complain about increased postage costs. I've always shipped to Japan via USPS and have never once had a problem.

If it will fit into a flat rate global priority envelope, that would be the cheapest.

I would ship u.s.postal service. Check the air versus surface rates. I find most go for the air rates as its faster.
Would never ship ups or fedex as they will wind up with a fat "customs" charge from these companys.
I have always had great luck with the postal service to japan. Make sure you only put the item cost on the custom form as shipping cost has nothing to do with the item value.

I have shipped several items to Japan with no problems. Always use USPS air, delivery in about 5 days

depend on what item weighs 1 1/2 lbs,if it can fit into a usps global priority envelope,it only costs 9 dollars.
no insurance is offered on this deal.
you can use this envelope for up to 4 lbs.
a good deal.

Any package less than 4lbs can be shipped Airmail (4-7 Days) using Airmail Letter Post. The cost for this one would be $12.30. If the customer wants insurance, you have to use Airmail Parcel Post which is $20.50 plus the cost of insurance. I can't believe Canadians would pay $19.95 to have anything shipped to them. The same package to Canada would be $5.05 Airmail Letter Post. No wonder they think everyone is out to gouge them.

Don't use UPS or FedEx. It will cost a fortune.

If you do have to insure it then Global Express Mail (EMS) would be the best. It is only a couple dollars more than insured airmail and has tracking. (insurance is free for the first $100)

Why don't you tell us how much the shipment is valued at. With the insurance info we can give you definite advise instead of guessing.

I shipped once to Japan.
My advice is pack it well!
I sent it USPS insured.
When it got there 2 months later it was busted, and of course the P.O. wouldn't honor their Ins. claim because all I had for proof of value was the Ebay invoice.

This was the only bad experience I've had with the P.O.

I felt bad for the guy so I sent him back purchase price.
But he was still out over $60.00 shipping!

I ship to Japan alot.

Global Priority will take box as long as the longest side is no more than 24" or has a combined length, width height of less than 36". Around the size of a big priority box. That would cost $13.00

Same size restrictions for Airmail Letter (misnomer)and that's $12.30. If it's bigger then it's $20.50.

The cheapest is Economy surface. With the smaller dimensions it's $5.35; larger $23.25.

There is no insurance. I send glass and I've never had a problem.

if you are talking about the global priority box itself,i think the cost is 40 dollars for up to 4 lbs,not 13 dollars/
if you are mailing a box and can fit it into a global priority envelope, then it is cheaper.but make sure you tape it well, fitting box in envelope can cause the seams to burst.

You don't have to use an envelope. I ship boxes all of the time internationally. It's all in the dimensions. The site calls it a letter but if you look it has non-letter size. I've never paid the $40.
