I am thinking about starting a new e-bay user id for items that I want to list anonymously while keeping my current user id seperate. I've got it all figured out (I think) except 1 thing. When I make a sale and I want to accept money order and/or personal checks I have to give out my correct name and address in order for them to send me the money. I assume I can get a P.O. box to handle the address thing but how do I get around giving out my name when I have to sign the money orders and checks in order to cash them. Maybe use paypal only??
Thank You

If your bank is anything like mine, you could deposit checks made out to Scooby Doo nd it would not be a problem. I get checks written out to a variety of screwy names - I deposit them via ATM (since I have to pay my bank to actually deal with a teller) and never once has there been a problem.

Just how to you suppose you will keep your contact information secret from Ebay? As a winning bidder I'm pretty sure I can pull your contact information and it has to be correct. I'm wondering why all the secrecy? I don't think I'd bid from anyone who has to hide everything including their name. It would make me very uncomfortable. A PO Box is not unheard of, of course.

Be prepared to have a lot of non paying bidders. Many people will not send a blank check or money order to a P.O. box. Also, prepare for a lot of successful appeals from these bidders if you file for FVF against them. If you become too anonymous, Ebay will boot you for invalid contact info. About the only way you can be 100% anonymous is to sell out of the trunk of a car in a dark alley.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I'm curious, why would you want to be that anonymous? Are you afraid that previous bidders will bid on your new auctions and find out who you are? If they did would it damage your reputation? Do you plan to sell unsavory items? Are you hiding for some reason because of bad deals with previous bidders? I know, call me snoopy but I just have to ask why?

Two ways that I know, one is positve and the other MAY work. The one that WILL is filing for a dba and getting a bank account under your fictious statement name (your business name) Favorite Spot Enterprises. They write the checks out to that name, No problem. It's just everyday business.

The second one, depends on who's behind the desk at your bank. Just simply open a checking account, mention nothing. Under Favorite Spot Enterprises. They might not ask for any ficticious newspaper filing documents. Ya get lucky.

As far as e bay,,,how many peope actually look up that info? Unless there is a problem. expecting any problems?

There you go.

edit to say,,,,,sign checks? Are you nuts? I gave that up after my first month on e bay, the signing my name to all those checks drove me insane, get a deposit Only stamp from the bank $30.00....stamp, flip, stamp flip, stamp flip,,,,,got the picture? easy....sign? crazy!

FETISH. I think the DBA will work the best. That's a great idea.

I'm not expecting any problems nor am I avoiding any e-bay sellers. Just wanting an alias as many others have.

Thank you.

I get checks made out from names like "BlahBlahBlah.com" frequently. Writing "For Deposit Only" on the back of a check makes it so no signature is needed as long as the money is deposited in the ATM.

I'll have to try the ATM thing. I've received 2 checks made out to the company name and both times the teller gave me a hard time DEPOSITING them because I don't have a business checking account.
