Is there anything that can be done about suspected shill bidding? I've just noticed on an auction where I have been outbid that the same person has bid on 168 auctions by the same seller. He registered just yesterday and has a zero feedback. Does this sound fishy just to me?

be careful....there was an earlier thread where someone was suspected of being a shill bidder and the auction turned out to be a charity auction run by EBay..but I agree..sounds fishy!

SMen - shill bidders may npt be a bid del when there are 10 other auctions featuring the same thing but when it is a one of a kind item it a whole different story.

Oh, here we go again with self-appointed shill vigilantes.
I now have at least a half-dozen bidders -- regular customers -- who have never bid on anyone else's auctions. EVER.
I wasn't monitoring them from their very first day on eBay, but 168 bids wouldn't surprise me since I run hundreds of auctions at a time.
I just love how people get vengeful when they're outbid. Yeah, it must be shill bidding! That's the ticket!
There are folks who just love to bid. Get over it. Bid more next time and you won't get outbid. Capische?

toasted36: While I am sure that some shill bidding occurs (mainly by people who don't understand that it is counterproductive and a waste of money), I am also quite certain that 90% of all suspected shill bidding is in reality legitimate activity.
The problem with shill-spotting is that it's usually based on emotion. Critical analysis goes right out the window. You may not remember this, since it happened at least six years ago, but there was a high-profile shill-spotter (named Sandy, I think) who made quite a stink. It was her own personal Holy Crusade, and she was a real loose cannon. eBay offered her a job, since she did have some investigative skills, but she declined. I don't know what happened to her; she returned to obscurity.

Yes, I define "loose cannon" as someone who makes willy-nilly accusations.
So sue me.
