Awhile ago, I read a thread here where someone had developed a formula that made it easy to figure % of fees for an auction...anyone remember it or can direct me to it??

I don't remember the thread, but it is difficult to get a % formula because it really depends on how much you sell an item for.

As an example, a $5 item costs $1.06 in ebay and paypal fees, or 21.2%

A $20 item (assuming you start on ebay for $9.99) you will spend 11.4% in fees.

It really depends on the final price of the item...

This is TOO weird! I just sent this fee chart ( within the last hour) to a friend of mine who has bugun to take on consignments. I posted that question a awhile back and got a great response from Robschimmel. Thank you again Rob, I use thes figures for estimating all of the time. He did all the work, I just saved it.
" These figures are from BEFORE the latest price increases, and ARE WITHOUT PAYPAL factored in (we get an even mix of paypal and money order
payments).

fv=$ 1, 46% paid to ebay/aw
=$ 3, 22%
=$ 5, 14%
=$ 10, 10%
=$ 40, 9%
=$ 50, 11% (yup, goes up a tick)
=$100, 8%
=$200, 6%
=$500, 5%
=$ 1k, 4%
I'm sure the current fee structures raise the numbers by at least a point. I don't remember why the uptick at $50., but it works out right
according to the ebay and aw rules at the time."

But I know it depends on whether you use special features too--like gallery picture, bold face title, highlighted title, etc. I wonder how that fits into this chart?

Maybe you have a great sell through rate, but if not, then the fees for those unsold items have to come in there somewhere (or at least I figure them in).

It occurs to me that ebay could make it lots easier for us, figuring what the fees are when we're selling for others. If only they had the title of the auction item on the account page! If they can do it elsewhere, why not there? It's very tedious making a note of the item numbers and then finding them on that page. I wonder if we could influence ebay in that regard??
