My wife and I are going to buy a digital camera. We tend to always buy Sony products. We are comparing a Mavica and CyberShot camera. I would use it for auction pictures, but we also want a camera for personal use too.

The Mavica (MVC-FD100)is a 1.2 mega pixel and the CyberShots (DSC-P52 or DSCP8) are both 3.2.

Anyone use any of these? Opinions?

I just bought a Sony F717. It is without a doubt the best digital camera I have ever seen in the sub $2000 range. I use it to take razor sharp closeups of my gemstones and my wife uses it to take photo's of the kids. You can adjust all the same settings as a film camera or just fire away on auto. I recommend that you have a look at one of these during your research.
Cheers,
Adrian

I have a Sony Mavica and I have taken over 14,000 pics for Ebay alone and it has performed flawlessly. I am still using the same original battery with 2 hours of life per charge. I will buy another one without question. I will not even look at any others. Family members have other brands and they cause them nothing but trouble.

Hi Stop,
You are quite right it is a pricey item. But in my category good photo's make all the difference. I was talking Aussie$ and that included accessories, shipping and import duty/taxes. I have seen this camera and an excellent accessory pack on ebay for around US$935. I upgraded from a Mavica which was also excellent. There is a website called Steve's digicams that has excellent reviews on just about any digital camera that you can think of. Just scroll through the list of cameras untill you find the one you want.

HI!

I found Steve's and read the review for the CyberShot P8. And another site's review. Both thought it was a really good camera. Since it would be for more than one purpose, decided that it would be the best option. So far, with the few test shots I have done, works really well.

Only downside, when I upload them to my site my storefront the smaller versions (just the regular picture displayed at a lower width) is jagged. I got the same problem through my scanner when I used it.

Any suggestions? If I take the picture with a regular film camera that doesn't happen.

Don't know how much you want to spend, but I just got a Canon Powershot A60 (2.0 MP), and I love it. The street price is about $249. They also have the A70, which is basically the came camera, but 3.0 MP. It has a ton of settings, or you can just put it on automatic. To me, it's almost like having a digital version of an AE-1, but a lot smaller. This camera also has a metal body, not plastic. Might want to check it out. MJ

You may want to experiment with making images that small into gifs.
Jpgs have the tendency to be soft, and even though those are photos on your site, making them into gifs, esp the graphic novels (comix) they will be cleaner in the gif format. And smaller, too.

Camerawise, I love Steve's Digicam site.
I have an Olympus, it's a big megapixel, and I have yet to master the darn thing, I am old school, so that's just me, but the downside is battery life is stinky on the rechargables, non rechargable, it's pretty decent.
The upside, I can get some amazing portrait photos out of it.
I would also add, that the flash media cards and readers are so awesome that you don't even need to worry about the soon-to-be-obsolete 1.whatever mg floppy disk.

We've got the Sony Cybershot DSC-S75. It's the 3.3 megapixel Cybershot that still looks ike a regular camera instead of some little tiny thing.

Carl Zeiss lens and a 6x zoom has made this the best money we ever spent.

I've taken over 2500 photos with it since november/december and never had a problem.
