I just got off the phone with a customer service person from BuenoMG.com regarding a merchant account that I am looking to set up. I have some specific issues since I plan on moving to Mexico in the next year and was not sure about basing from the US or Mexico, What banks to use, etc. The person I spoke with was a JOY to deal with. Gave me advice on different ways, what the different requirements would be, caparable rates for different services.... everything I could think of to ask and things I would never think of.

If you are seeking a merchant account I would say don't let the name throw you off, at least give them a look.

You can opt for the icommerce portal if all of your sales are dollar to dollar for $50 (one time charge) or if you are doing international sales authorizemet is $125 (one time charge). Actual transactions fees are 2.09% + .25.

They also offer design and hosting services.

I've been considering three areas, Mexico City, Guadalajara and Oaxaca. I've been leaning toward Guadalajara because of climate and location and after speaking to the gentleman at Bueno I'm pretty sure that is where I am going to go. They have an office there and he just recently returned from working out of that office so he was able to give me some insight into the area and it's economics. He not only helped me with business questions I had but also gave me some extremely helpful info on getting residency status & basic services. It really was invaluable.

I once read that there are over four million Americans living withing 50 miles of the US border, mostly retirees making the most of their retirement funds in gated retirement communities.

I don't doubt it. Because of the climate, Guadalajara is another popular location for retirees. I'm not actually planning on living in one of the american areas, I mean, if you are going to step out of the box, STEP OUT of the box.

Stop - I live in San Diego, I know Baja well. I love it but it's a little too susceptible to lovely little things like hurricanes - I've lived in Tornado country and earthquake territory and I think I can forego natural disaster #3. It's also a little too humid for me. I also want something a less touristy and more convenient to Mexico City.

Try to remember that Mexico is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. My ex father-in-law went down to Mexico years ago with his brother. They got to a stop light that was red but a police officer waved him through. He told his brother "if I don't go I'll get a ticket for disobeying a police officer and if I do go I'll get a ticket for running a red light". He drove on and the cop stopped him for running a red light. It was either 'Go to jail or pay the cop a $20 bill'. They love Americans.

Actually - you don't go to jail, you have to go down to the court to pay the fine. If you tell them you will follow them to the court/jail most of the time they will just let you go. BTW - they don't just do that you americans, the police do that to EVERYONE although they are currently working to curtail it. Many police forces are running stings on their officers to help put an end to the practice. On the flip side, it cost me all of $20 to get out of a DUI a few years ago so I'm not complaining.
