When I turned my computer on this morning Norton had a window open stating there is a virus on the computer. All I can figure out is it is Trojan horse. In the quarantined area it has this listed:

File name: SysReg.exe
Original location: C:\Windows\System.....
Quarantined: 5\24\02
Submitted: Not submitted
Status: Quarantined
Virus name: Trojan Horse

Should I delete the virus or will it do harm to the system file.

When I started the computer and the window came up stating there is a virus and it had done damage in the SysReg.exe files it asked if I wanted to repair the system and I clicked yes. It said it cannot be repaired. So what am I to do about it. Should I go to MS's site and search for an answer?

I know many of you out there are experts or at least well versed in such computer things so I really need your advice.
Thanks much!

We have had many a virus.
What we always have done without having any problems after ~ is, once it is in Norton's quarantine, we simply deleted it.

Now, unless you opened the email with attachment, that could be a different story.

When we receive an email with virus, Norton pops up to say so, it goes into quarantine and we hit delete.

Good luck !

That is the thing...I din't open any mail with attachments. I receive two last night but deleted them. I can't imagine where it came from. I alway run Norton's firewall and anti-virus so it slipped through.

The reason I am afraid to delete it is that it is an important system file, I think, and it will delete the whole system file. In the past I have deleted the virus out of the quarantined area also but I'm not sure of this one.

This may help, but seems like you can delete the file from Quarantine

Thanks guys for your help.

I finally realized I needed to go to the quarantine and submit it for Norton to do whatever they do with the information. On the second step of the submit it asked if I wanted to strip it from the file so I said yes. It cleaned it out and everything is fine at least for the moment. It had been so long since I had a virus I forgot what to do.

It worries me that it goe through the firewall and anti-virus though. At least the AV caught it and quarantined it but how did it get in? I didn't open any emails with attachments. I received two last night but deleted them when I got them. Guess I'll never know how it got in.

Thanks again.

Twelvepole--------

That's interesting. I have downloaded 2 things in the last few days. The first was Vendio's new Sales Manager or whatever it is and the weird Al's eBay song. The link was in one of yesterday's topic on the message board about the song. Anyone who downloaded the song shoud check their computer maybe.
