An elderly woman I know would like me to sell this combination necklace / brooch for her. I'm having a hard time discerning the era. I want to say Victorian but the chain has a Deco flavor. Maybe a transitional piece - Nouveau / Deco??? It has unfortunately lost it's pin back. I think the stones are Jet but could be Onyx. Any help would be appreciated. I want to make sure it is listed correctly for her. Would you call is a convertible necklace?

Cheryl I hope you enjoyed your aromathy bath last night....
Are the stones open in back or closed? I would say maybe 20's but then what does the clasp look like. No matter what anyone says you can sometimes tell the piece by the clasp. The way the pearls are around the piece remind me of late 30's or 40's. Is the chain silver or silver color?
Nice piece. I wouldn't say it was victorian though, looks more like deco...

It's neither Art Nouveau or Deco.
Nouveau: flowing lines
Deco: geometric shapes
Is it, as I suspect, a brass stamping? The stones look like black crystals. The black in the center design could be enamel. I don't think this is 100 years old; I'd say more like mid-twentieth century, European, possibly Italian.
Any marks at all?

It has a spring ring closure. The stamping is brass and the center is stone of some sort, which is why the woman thought Black Onyx. Unfortunately, no markings. The chain is a gold tone, but light. This belonged to the woman's mother so European makes sense. They were Italian.Must be 20's to 40's because the woman's mother died in the 1950's.
