Nice profit aint! I am also having a good week in sales. This will be my first full weekend out to the yard sales since I had surgery (almost 2 months)! There are sooooooooooo many good sales, I don't know where to start...but it will be fun trying to get to them all. Good Luck at yours!

This is my last weekend before taking an extended trip, but I will try to hit as many as I can on the road. The last time I went away in March, I ended up shipping back 6 boxes of stuff. When I am on the road, I strictly look for video games, movies, etc. so I can ship it back media mail. I am looking forward to this weekend, very hot here in the PNW and I expect people to set up even if they did not advertise.

Movies can be difficult, because there are a lot of titles (most actually) that will sell for less than what the seller is asking. Sometimes you can do well, but many have an overinflated sense of cost. It kills me when someone has so many great titles, but their sell price is higher than my sell price. Oh well! There are some good finds, just this week I sold something for $40 that I purchased for $2, and another $1 purchase is up at $35 right now.

Video games are usually a good thing, many times people underestimate what they are worth. Last weekend, someone sold two systems and about 10 games for $10. They asked if they sold too cheaply. I told her it was a good deal for me, nothing more. Did not want to make her feel too bad!

I actually found mine this past Saturday. Our local flea market was cancelled because of rain so we went to an indoor flea bazaar. I found a small gold filigree perfume bottle with Burmese Jade decoration for $5 (it's now up to $60), a Guilloche decorated coin holder that looks like it was part of a chatelaine for $3 (up to $34) and a Deco Evening in Paris Rouge compact with the rouge still in it for $3 (no bids yet). All in all, not too shabby. I plan to visit the guy's shop again this weekend.

Wow, what a great day today. I found a rare video for 50 cents that I will try to sell for about $100, I got tons of other great videos, and someone sold me 9 Nintendo 64 games for $15. Can't wait to get back out there tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the Palo Alto (Calif.) citywide garage sale.

I'd just as soon skip it but my partner has the GS bug with no cure in sight.

I don't expect to find much of anything, so if I do, it will be a nice surprise.

I think we used to get too worked up about Saturday garage sales and as a result, ended up making some questionable purchases. Florist ware or encyclopediae start to look almost good after no luck at the previous 20 sales.

fluffy, you need to think outside the box...don't go thinking you will find that one item that will make a million, just look for things of interest that maybe someone else passed over. that is when it becomes fun for me.

at a church sale today, an elderly gentleman that was volunteering to help with the sale started joking with me. he was eating marshmallows from a bag and offered me 1 marshmallow for each dollar I spent. well I bought the whole table full of jewelry for $5.00 and let him keep the marshmallows. I collect jewelry so couldn't wait to start looking through it all. no major finds but 3 pieces of Sara Coventry.

Got some Goofus glass for 75 cents, new white jeans for hubby for $1.00, a tiny Hall creamer, a child's tea set for my granddaughters (maybe, got to look it up first), and other odds and ends. Tomorrow there are a lot more sales, some start as early as 7:00a.m. That will be me in the fuzzy slippers with my sippy cup of coffee stumbling around the neighborhood. LOL. Good luck to all!

Our neighborhood is having a rummage - about 50 houses by us and then the association bordering us is also having theirs - another 75 houses. Everyone come over by me and shop! I'm hoping hubby will watch the sale a little while so I can rummage around, but he is going to take over the soccer duties and everything else that comes up on a Saturday.

Good point but I think I've gotten jaded from having done this for so long. We stopped at one sale last weekend (I didn't want to); the guy had a box full of kewpies, a Roseville vase and some other Fifties kitsch.

The kewpies were all made-in-Japan dimestore stuff, but I thought what the hey and bought them all anyway.

It was funny really, the guy wanted $5 for the Roseville and my partner kept eyeing the flea bites on its rim ("pssst, are you sure it's worth that much? here, look at this damage."
He's been really sweet this week, taking such painstaking care of me while I'm sick.

Congrats, Cheryl! I found a big fat cookbook, Cooking for Fifty (like I'm sure I"LL ever want to do THAT)--50 cents total, going for lots on Half.com--up to $75. I listed it for $55 or so and we'll see what happens. Also, do you guys remember that repro Wexford glass wine jug I posted here for ID? Got it for 20 cents? It's up to $51 already and another full day to go. Love it. My sales are doing well, but I am not listing any high-end stuff this summer, just some of the odds and ends, throw-aways in my shelves that I want Out of Here Soon. But I've been surprised to see sales pretty brisk. Right now out of 30 auctions I have just 3 or 4 with no bids at all.

Roadsmith did you take my bidders? out of 23 auctions, I have 5 with bids...help! oh well there's still tomorrow.

I found a vintage (intellevision) aged TV "Computer" game, (remember pong?) still in the box with all the packing materials and paperwork intact, pristine condition.....25 cents...please hope for me...I need money!

got a good buy on two of the Gift Certificate miniature mens hats in their boxes and more jewelry for me of course.

25 cents, ouch! If you want to post the auction here I will take a look lol...I had a good day today, best deal of the day was someone who sold me a Nintendo system, a Super Nintendo (still in box with original packing) and a bunch of games for $30. I've already sold several of the games, too!

I have 19 auctions on and only 6 with bids but total over $100.00. I think the others will get bids as they don't go off for a while.

Good for you Roadsmith. I honestly it pays to start a little lower to bring those bidders in and once there is a bid on an item there are many lookers and I hope bidders.

Went to some sales but nothing spectacular. Of course I didn't start until late. Our one find was a new macrame Green Bay Packer chair that we gave to our daughter the ultimate Packer Fan....Her closet is green and gold...

While my wife and I consider ourselves 'hard core' garage salers, I find it difficult to shop for things that could sell on eBay for a profit. Sometimes we'll find a thing or two but most of the time we're looking for things for our home and for our 3 y/o son (who has been coming with us to sales since he was born!)

After many weekends of just finding junk in our corner of the NW, this past Friday was a great bonanza. Unfortunately, our weather was VERY hot---in the 90's--and he had to call it quits around 2 PM Saturday as it was just too hot. But among our finds we found a full wood dining room set (table w/leaves, 4 chairs) for $40, two celing fans with light fixtures new-in-the-box for $7, a CD labeling kit with tons of labels and software for $5...

We also got a huge box of free stuff which included puzzles for my boy, electronic writing pad, antique ceiling light, toys...We may go trolling tomorrow if the weather lets up.

Tell me about the weather, I am near Portland and it was just crazy hot, like 25 degrees above normal this weekend! Funny how 95 feels fine in Las Vegas, but move it to Portland and it feels as hot as....

About a month ago, I shuddered at the thought of 95 degree weather. Now, after a few triple digit days here in Central California, 95 degrees is a relief. Just remember on these hot days, the seller is setting there in the garage more miserable than you are, and not wanting to pack up anything and drag it back in the house. Many times, when the temp tops 90, they are willing to do some serious price negotiating.
This is especially true at flea markets in this area.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I agree, some of the sellers were wilting in the heat, just giving stuff away. However, we were wilting just getting in and out of the car---and we were getting close to heat exhaustion. But, the summer is young and cooler weather is coming.

Hey rarriffle-4 years ago I found the original Intellivision game set mint in the plastic at a flea market. Someone had never opened the box. They actually cost $300 new in 1978-79. I know because I bought one. :> I was fortunate to find a collector in San Francisco who gave me $750 for it. Since then that market has dropped but best of luck.
