Hi Guys,
I just won an $800+ item located in Argentina. The listing indicated they accept PayPal but when I tried to send the money I get the following message from PayPal.:

Currently PayPal accounts in Argentina are only able to send payments. This recipient is not eligible to receive funds.

The listing also indicates they accept Bidpay & Int'l money orders.

Short of PayPal, what is the safest way for me to protect my interests here? I'm not concerned the money will be lost or stolen. I'm more concerned the piece will not be as described, broken, repaired, etc. and I like the leverage a credit card transaction provides (I think, am I being naive here?)

The piece will be sent registered and insured, but I know not by whom.

Thanks.

Quite frankly - you are just going to have to have faith. If your concerns are lie mainly in how the item will survive shipping you have always request shipping via UPS with insurance.

unless he has a merchant account and can accept credit card payment,i would say you have no recourse if things do not turn out as described.
if he said it will be shipped registered and insured,he means the argentinian post office.
paypal offers insurance to buyer in case item is not as described, but if paypal is not allowing you to send payment to argentina,it probably would not extend such insurance to you.

Interesting that he said he accepts PP, he should have known he couldn't.

Does he have high FB? Is it really good? If so, bite the bullet and send the $.

OTOH is this a computer or computer part?

The safest way is to fly to Argentina and meet with the seller to inspect the item before paying for it.

I'm utterly serious here.

I have negotiated a personal pickup when large amounts of money were involved and I was concerned about the condition of the item. It's the only way to be sure.

Plus, we've made some memorable trips.

there are a lot of nice old stuff in argentina, with their pathetic economy, you could ask him to line up some stuff for you to see.
remember the white russians who fled russia and came to western europe, they were selling their heirlooms.
