I've been trying to view my eBay auctions but for some reason it's saying my user ID is invalid. I've also tried typing in my email address and still it won't let me in. I can go through Vendio and look, but not by regular eBay search or using my favorites/bookmarks. Is anyone else having any troubles or is it just me? Hope it's on eBay's end and I haven't been locked out for some strange reason. HELP!

Go to the Ebay search by bidder or seller and enter your name. If you have been blocked it will show you as an unregistered user

This is the message I get when trying to get in:

Invalid Seller's User ID "[email protected]" is not a registered eBay user. If you have mistyped the User ID, please go back and try again.

But I just tried using my user name "countrythymeantiques" and got in. But what about my email address? I'm wondering if maybe something else is going on. What do I do now? And why on earth would I have been blocked? Haven't done anything wrong - that I am aware of. Any suggestions?

Just a thought.

Search for one of the numbers to one of the auctions you have bought or sold lately, and click on your link. This would be done under advanced search options and view completed auctions.

See if someone changed your USER ID.

rajan -

Did this just happen to you today or has it happened in the past? I'm just hoping it's just an eBay glitch and will correct itself soon. I don't think I've provided any info to anyone that who could have scammed me. So not sure what's happening.

Just looked at eBay's Announcement Board and found this:

***Security Enhancement - Limiting Email Lookup***

We are implementing a site-wide change to enhance security on eBay. Beginning today, email harvesters (people or computer robots that scour the web for email addresses) will no longer be able to use eBay to validate email addresses for fraudulent usage.

This security enhancement will change the way members can look up information about other members. Until today, you could search for another member and their eBay information (such as items listed, bids placed, etc.) by using either their User ID or their email address. Starting today, you will only be able to look up another member's information with their User ID. This affects functions such as Bidder Search, Seller Search, Feedback Profile Search, and others, and extends across all International eBay sites.

This change is necessary in order to help protect eBay members from unsolicited marketing emails ("spam", as well as fraudulent emails made to look like they have come from eBay or PayPal that, in fact, contain links to obtain passwords and other account information when clicked on by unsuspecting member recipients ("spoof" emails).

Members who may not remember their buyer or seller's User ID can use the new Request User ID feature to look up their User ID by email address. However, to make sure this feature is consistent with our security changes, there will be strict limitations to how often this can be used. To get to Request User ID, please visit the Find Members page here.

We feel that these measures will minimally impact members' abilities to use the site, and have no impact on legitimate communication between members. We encourage you to read our FAQ for more information.

Regards,
eBay

The 'look up any ebay ID via an email' function was both useful and a major invasion of privacy. You could place any email address in the search box and it would give you the corresponding ebay ID and then you could look up whatever they bought or sold and feedback. I'm sure most novice buyers had no idea that their ebay account info was available via this route.

Vendio is sending emails to all their registered sellers explaining the change. I just got one a few minutes ago. They have made the necessary changes in your Vendio account. Basically, you will no longer be able to interchange your username and email address on ebay's site unless you have one of the older accounts where your email addy and username are the same.

I am an eBay seller, and have 30-day, 2-day, and current auctions bookmarked for convenience.

Two of these bookmarks failed today (with the "INVALID USERID" message), but I did get back in my using my userid (not my email address) with eBay Search, and have rebookmarked.

I guess I should have gone and read the eBay Announcements page, but I'm glad there was mention of the change (and why) here.

Thanks!

Yep~ just happened to me too.
I have a favorite seller in my favorites (one of many) and when I clicked on the name in my favorites, said invalid.
In a panic I emailed that seller thinking either he changed his ID or his account was hacked!
So I looked up one of his eBay auctions and still has the same ID !

Here's the email you will receive from Vendio:

Subj: Urgent Message from Vendio - eBay Changes Login
Date: 6/9/03 4:07:12 PM Pacific Daylight Time
From: [email protected] (Vendio Services)
Reply-to: [email protected]
To: [email protected] (Vendio Sellers)

Dear Vendio Seller,

Effective immediately, eBay is no longer allowing sellers to
log-in to eBay using an email address. Beginning today, all
log-ins to the eBay site, including those through third-party
providers like Vendio, require using the account's user name.
Previously, eBay would allow both an account user name or
registered email address to be used as the login credential
to their site.

In coordination with eBay we have updated all accounts on file
with us that have email address stored as login credential.
We have replaced the email address stored on our site with the
actual account ID.

eBay decided to make this change in order to combat the
increasing occurrences of ID theft and fraud involving users
email addresses.

This change should have no impact on operations. However, we
recommend that you double check the ID stored with us when you
get a chance. This is under My Account -> Auction Site Accounts.

Please note that this change will NOT affect older eBay accounts
where the eBay ID and email address are the same. Those users
can still use their email address as their log-in.

You can read the eBay announcement text at the end of this
email message.

Happy selling,

The Vendio Team
