No, I'm not a shill for Quill.com!

In their "closeout" section, they have side-loader bubble envelopes for the lowest price I've ever seen - 4 different sizes. If you use bubble envelopes, check it out.

I ordered one size the other day; now I've ordered another. They have a set shipping price via UPS of under $4 for any order, period.

Doesn't this sound like a spam ad? Ain't. I just wanted to share this with you because I know we're always looking to cut costs.

Quill.com or Quillcorp.com, either one works.

Other than side loading what is the difference between the two designs? Can you mail jewelry in the side loading ones? I know that this might be a stupid question but the difference in price is great. 75 top loading ones for $19.99 and 100 side loading for $11.00. That would really be a savings.

Roadsmith have you gotten any yet and if so comment on the durability of the side loading ones. Thanks

Libra: I ordered two boxes in a larger size, about 15 x 12, and the shipment came in one day. There's no difference other than side- vs top-loading--maybe there are buyers who need side-loading for some reason? I know I can use side loaders just the way I use the top loaders, for books and flat things. I've never shipped jewelry in a bubble envelope, but the bubbles appear to be the same thickness as more expensive ones I've gotten in the past, so if it's worked for you before, I'd think these would be fine.

Remember, the flat shipping rate was under $4 and there was CA tax of about $2 added (for 200 items), which may not apply to you. They truly are the best bargain I've ever seen. I got an e-mail from them about the sale because I was already a (small) customer. But from now on I"m going to their "sale" and "closeout" buttons regularly.

Funny: I know this sounds just like a TV commercial but it isn't!

These envelopes are much less than the tyvek envelopes I usually use. I don't require the padding, but for this price is there any reason I couldn't use these? I ship mostly clothing. Thanks!

You do have to watch out for the closeouts on Quill sometimes. I bought a case of 100 bubble mailers in the closeout section a while back and they were just like the regular ones except there was not closing strip. I have to tape the heck out of the mailers to get them to close. It's a real pain.

Roadsmith,

Thanks for sharing the information!

Auctionace,

I've never had any problem buying the closeouts at Quill. (it definately saves some major $$$). Is it possible that you ordered heat-seal bubble envelopes? Those would not have had a seal strip on them (as they use heat to seal themselves). I'd highly recommend buying the closeouts for anyone... just make sure you read the description before you buy it!

Libra - I'm a jewelry designer/crafter/seller and I use bubble/padded envelopes all the time. I put the jewelry item in a size-appropriate ziplock, then in a gift-box with cotton, wrap my folded packing slip around the whole thing and off we go - no problems!

Thanks! I just ordered 19 boxes (various sizes). They are half the price of what pay and I order my supplies in town and pick them up - Quill shipped for free! Now.....where to store them all......

Thanks for answering my questions. I sure can save if I use those. Even if the envelope has a self seal I always use another piece or two for good measures.

Melissa I use bubble envelopes whenever I can. I put the jewelry in a box, in a zip lock bag with my letter but I always wrap another piece of bubble wrap around it. I don't know why I guess I invision the mail carrier dropping the envelope and someone running over it. Of course it will still damage the jewelry but then the post office can't say I didn't pack it securely enough.

No Roadsmith you gave us some valuable information and I for one appreciate all the help and money I can save.

Chathamsue--I don't see any reason at all why you couldn't ship clothing in these envelopes, as long as they're large enough.

Everybody, I'm so glad you agree with me that this is a bargain! I'm doing the happy dance today. And Ihula, my word! 19 cases! Happy storage to you.

If we all just shared bargains with each other, we would all benefit. . . .

P.S. These side-loaders I have do have the self-seal closure strip, by the way.

Roadsmith-
Thanks so much for the tip! I ordered a bunch, too. I called in to ask a couple of questions. These mailers are 28% of their original price. They will be available through 6/30 & after that they are gone! If your order is over $45 s/h is free & I wasn't charged tax. Delivery is 2 days...it will take me that long to find space to store them. 8-)

Use code CJE for a free duffel with your order. I did a google search for quill coupons and found it.

Thanks for the great tip on this bargain. I'm a happy camper.

Thanks roadsmith, how nice of you to post that information.

I bought 5 cases at 11 cents an envelope, no S&H.
I've been paying 10 cents each for just paper clasp envelopes at Staples.

If you have a Sam's Club near they have Manila envelopes at a good rate. I think it is 250 for $9.79 or something like that.

Chatham - how much do you usually pay for Tyveks? I may be able to track down a better price for you.

Thank you, Neon!
I pay about .25 or so. I had gotten a good deal about a year ago from a seller on ebay for plain white ones that didn't say 1st Class. Thanks again.

Unless you are paying shipping too the price I found is about the same. If there is a Kelly Paper in your area and you have a resell number you can get 10x13 plain Tyveks from them for 25 cents each, 22 cents for 9x12s.

Kelly is a paper supplir for print shops. If there is not a Kelly, check with your local printer to find out who the supplier in the area is - they are also a good source for Avery laser labels.

paws We have BJ's near us, same thing as Sam's club. I never thought to check them out. Thanks for that reminder. The heavy manilla envelopes are perfect for my rubber stamps, I plan to use the bubbles for multiple orders.

Thanks, Neon! I am in CT - I checked & Kelly is only in CA, AZ & NV. I am sure I can do better than .25 each. I think I would be hard pressed to do much better than the .17 the bubble mailers cost, delivered. I appreciate your help. I have another coupon code for Quill for orders over $75 through 8/31. It's CFM & it's for a 60 minute phone card. Good for calling those unresponsive bidders. ; )

Dang, I normally use #000 or #00 envelopes. Perhaps they don't made side-loading bubbles in these sizes, but I didn't see any listed in their closeout section.

Oh well, congrats to those who were able to cut their costs a bit.

The smallest size, when cut in half, approximates the size of the #000 mailer, which is what I use.

I don't mind cutting 500 envelopes in half if it means I'm saving a bundle.

Ok I need to weigh in on the quill.com issue. I never heard of the company until yesterday when I read about it hear and I immediately went to place an order. I placed the order at noon on Wednesday and had the order Thursday at 3:00. I'm impressed ... thats all I wanted to add I guess. Great prices and fast shipping ... sounds like a good Ebay seller

Fluffy, how do you cut a bubble mailer in half and still be able to ship a quality-looking piece of mail? I'd appreciate hearing how you do that. Thanks.

Quality-looking?

It looks like a bubble mailer sliced in half with one edge taped.

As long as the mailer does the job, why pay extra for looks?

Look, guys. If you want a cheap education in how the very high volume sellers operate, just buy something from them. I spent $8 on a CD from Marie and Jay, and learned a lot about how they do business.

For one thing, they buy bubble mailers that fit the standard CD. It's an unusual size, so I assume they buy huge quantities to get a good price. And there's no fancy-schmancy label on the package, and certainly no eDC. The return address is rubber-stamped, and the "mailing label" was simply my address cut out and taped on. No stamps.com or Endicia here...postage was a couple of stamps.

By our estimate, these folks are grossing nearly $2 million a year on eBay. Maybe they know something the rest of us don't.

Well, great prices on this one Closeout deal. Kudos to Roadsmith for bringing it to light.

Anyone have time to page through the Quill catalogue yet? I priced some of the supplies I normally buy elsewhere. Catalogue retail is 175% of what I pay at PaperMart.

So, Quill performed admirably on this first order, but they won't be my go-to guys for everything.

Also, keep in mind that their Web ordering is backed by a huge time-tested fulfillment system. Quill is one of the biggies in the catalogue biz. I was amused to see that two of my bubble-mailer cartons came from Ontario, CA by UPS Next Day Air. They must get some great rate from UPS since we paid nothing for shipping.

(Check out the Closeout refurb notebook computers on the Web site, if you're thinking of a laptop. I was even considering buying one...though it's a...shudder...Windows machine.)

Better check the dimensions of your order. I bought 2 cases and they are not the size I ordered. Even the packing slip states a different dimension than the on-line order confirmation has.
