Hi folks,

This is probably a dumb question that has been asked many times, but I am new to book collecting---what is the easiest way to tell if a book is a 1st Edition? Thanks for any assistance.

Hi kshoops, I collect first edition childrens books and classics. The first clue that a book may be a first edition is that there is only one publishing date, on the copyright page (usually on the back of the title page),so that's a good place to start. Later editions list the years of publication. Get some good reference books to learn more reference numbers and codes also. Here is a tip if you are just starting out, look for books that retain their original dust jacket, that can easily double a books value, even on some later editions.
