I recently bought about 20 pieces of Alvin's "Regent" pattern. Is this a dead pattern? There is nothing currently listed on Ebay, and on completed auctions there were no bids on the few items listed. Would you tell me what your experience has been with this pattern? Thanks for any help.

On the other hand, though, I had great success selling a plug-ugly 30s-40s sterling flatware pattern. Had about 300 pieces in this, 12 place settings with 9 pieces each!, plus all sorts of arcane serving pieces. I sold the serving pieces and little oddities like shrimp forks, etc., on ebay for triple what I'd been offered from a silver-buying service. Good big bucks! Gave the basic place settings to daughter, who didn't want all the extra teeny things. I'd do it again in a minute.

I looked this one up in Tere Hagan's Identification & Price Guide. This came out in 1931 & is not in great demand. Anyone who wants to deal in Sterling & Plate should get these 2 books. One is Sterling & the other is Silverplate. The sterling book has 268 pages with 9 patterns per page.

Thanks for the primer on silver trading Fluffy. My next question is, if a teaspoon is in an undesirable pattern, replacements would not want it. What's wrong with $3.00 an ounce from a smelter?
There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

I bought it for less than scrap. I already checked into that. It was a miracle that that happened. So if it doesn't fly on Ebay, it goes to the jeweler for scrap.I am curious as to why fluffythewondercat has edited out all his responses? i noticed he/she has done this on other threads, too.
