This object belongs to my partner in crime. What on EARTH is this thing? It's about 12 inches across, 2 inches deep and weighs about 2lbs. It's some sort of metal, and those circles are indentations. Was it done on purpose, or the result of stew gone wrong?

What is this whosiwhatsit?

edited to add: Those dents go outward..you're looking at the inside of it. Neat little optical illusion.

I *think* it's to poach or somehow cook a baker's dozen eggs, for use on an old-fashioned stove. (Could be an individual earring holder too but NOT.)

A muffin pan that you have upside down?

Fruit or jam goes into the indentations. Pour your cake batter over that. Bake 35-45 minutes at 350 degrees or until a light golden brown. When done, a toothpick inserted into the center should come out clean.

It goes on a cookie sheet or another baking pan knobby side down. The inside looks like a cake pan with craters, right? If not, ignore my recipe.

Hi all,

It's an escargot dish. One snail, still in it's shell, goes in each indentation for baking.

The rim on the dish helps contain the sauce.

Life's too short to drink cheap wine...

Edited to add... Is it perhaps tin over copper? A lot of the older French cookware was made that way.

It's a multi port petri dish for analyzing biological specimens for the production of weapons of mass destruction. It was exported from Iraq in the final days of the war to escape detection by weapons inspectors. You could try listing it, but it would probably only bring a couple million if the defense department bids. I personally would use it for poaching eggs. Hope you washed your hands good after touching it

Actually, we thought of that one too!

Other half says: "It's the lid the current administration was using to keep in its lies..the dents are from them trying to jump out"

Seriously though, Lucy and Shop..are you guys being serious or coming up with ideas? Hard to be sure in this thread

It does have the same look and feel to it as my grandmother's old cake pans.

SFS...I was serious also in my first post. It looks like a muffin or cornbread baking pan. Most of them I have seen are cast iron, but this one looks like aluminum. It could be a reflection of the flash though.
