I've got this buyer with a couple of different email addresses and its been a doosy tracking her with this purchase. (1st she paid thru checkout with her own shipping calculation, generously giving me a dollar to ship some glass.) So I politely told her I would refund and if she could please include the correct shipping. Ok, then she paypal's with me completely different email address with a unconfirmed shipping address.

Something doesn't feel right but tendency is to blow it off as paranoid.

So deny or accept?

What do you guys think? Should I be worried?

Hi,

Could be she's paying through someone else's PayPal. Sometimes I pay for things my son buys using my PayPal account. He does, though, write the seller so they know what's going on.

Has she sent the correct amount?

As far as the unconfirmed shipping address, I generally just accept the payment and ship unless it's a large amount of $$$.

If it IS a pricey item, you might want to check it out with her. You don't have any PayPal protection if you ship to an unconfirmed address..

Hi Lucy

Yeah I know people have multiple accounts and users etc., its just been one of those transactions where.. I dont know. I mean, after I told her about the shipping she didnt reply or anything just re-did payment from dif account.

But its not that big an amount of money (my stuff never is...,couple of glasses. But a pain to pack, etc. if its gonna be for a big rig-a-ma-role. (ya know?)

I will send it and insure it I guess. (I've sent to unconfirmed before and so far no problems.)
Thanks for your reply!

Tessa

Ship to an unconfirmed address only if you are willing to take a chargeback.

I often get unconfirmed addresses from buyers. I don't automatically accept them but instead check out their buyer reputation number. I'm often surprised to find 500+ verified transactions. I'll make my determination based on how many people they've paid (in addition to a quick scan of feedback). Knock on the keyboard--no problems yet.

But Bear is right, if you don't mind donating your item (and money), have at it!

Whem I buy (and lately it is alot due to the great prices right now), I usually request the item be sent to my work address. I'm not comfortable with items being left on my front porch in my neighborhood. When I pay through PayPal, I write a note to the seller telling her my reasons for wanting the item shipped to work. So far no one has refused. I, too, will send to an unconfirmed address but, usually only have the buyer has emailed me the reason why. More often than not it is for the same reason I give. If you're uncomfortable, why not just email your buyer and ask?

I've accepted hundreds of unverifed PP address payments without any problems and dozens of PP e-checks without waiting for them to clear. They were all under $50 so there wasn't much of a gamble anyway.

Thanks for the imput all!

Cheryl, good idea about emailing. (I should have thought of that! Why its good to ask here sometimes.

Well, I hope its not a rouse and a chargeback - I'm not in the mood for any nonsense. Am barely inking by getting listings on. -- Dont know why I feel so blah these days?

A question for Wendywins. How do you check out a buyers reputation number please?

I also check unconfirmed payers feedbacks on ebay and/or Yahoo as well. If they don't have any negs, I accept them. If they do have negs, then I screen to see what the negs and many of the positives say. Then it is a judgement call.

I haven't figured out the reason for the unconfirmed address yet. Every winter I change location to Arizona, yet I still have to pay bills, pay for items I purchase and it doesn't make sense to obtain a different credit card and a new buying name for eBay, PayPal or whomever, just to have a shipped to confirmed address. Seems they should have a way to confirm an address without the hassle of reregistering.

Just FYI: some people are unaware that you can have more than one address on your credit card. You can add a work address. You can even add a temporary vacation address. Just call your credit card issuer and ask them. When someone makes a credit card purchase from me and asks that I ship somewhere else, I tell them to add that address to their account. Unfortunately, this won't help with a paypal account, since you can only have one confirmed address.

Warning: Here is a scam that is hard to stop, particularly if Paypal is being used. A buyer placed an order with me and asked that it be shipped to their work address. I called the company and discovered that the buyer did NOT work there. It was a freight forwarding company. Anything shipped to that buyer would have been forwarded to Russia. Had I accepted the order, I would have been hit with a charge back when the actual owner of the credit card used discovered the charge.
