It's the biggest reduction yet ( short of a FLD ) . Wonder if the use of that feature has gone way down to inspire such a promotion?

I have mixed opions on this one.

As auctionAce said, interest must be low right now. From my own sales this month (or lack thereof) I can agree to that.

However, this is an awfully BIG drop. I wonder how they will handle 10,000 featured listings? That could be one BIIIG homepage.

Or they'll have to cycle through them, which is not really being seen by every viewer.

I won't be using it... but I bet a lot will and that will diminish the worth of doing it in the first place.

Here is what ebay says about home page featured:

"Your listing will have a chance to rotate into a special display on eBay's Home page. Your item is very likely to show up on the Home page, although eBay does not guarantee that your item will be highlighted in this way."

Why on earth would someone pay their normal asking price of $100 for A CHANCE to appear on the home page???

deltim,

Doesnt the featured items ever just catch your eye and you click on it to see what it is?? I have. So others must.

But as someone who is looking to see what is selling while browsing, I'd rather see it in the gallery than the featured page because you can never see the amount of bids on any particular item. (Unless I am not lookin right.)

Actually, I NEVER visit the homepage. I have "my ebay" bookmarked, and the search page bookmarked. Those are my two starting pages. The only time I ever look at the homepage is if someone comments about something different being on it and I am curious, or if I am on a computer that doesn't have my bookmarks (which for me is hardly ever).

Featured category... yes, sometimes something there will catch my eye. But something doesn't need to be homepage featured to be category featured, so I don't see what the extra money would help. Unless of course it is a very expensive item, but I am not lucky enough to sell or buy those.

I preferred the "hot" category, I wish they hadn't done away with that one. I loved looking in the hot category.

deltim, re hot catagory. Me too! (think most of the ebay boards on the hot catagory are so very vague.)
Whats hot in books: Nonficton. Well duh, that narrows it down alot, ya know?
(That is prob. bad example, but it is very vague.) If they could come up with something that really zero'ed in on "hots" for the week, I'd pay for the service.) I think Andale had or has something useable to that effect.

YAY! Finally got motivated enough to put some listings on today. Gonna get back to it.

Why would anyone in their right senses spend $99.95 or $29.95 when they can spend $2.95 for bold and increase the selling price by 39%. (Ebay's figures, not mine)

I never visit the home page, either and therefore don't click on it. I use MyEbay or I just type into the search. Nice idea to lower the cost, but it won't effect me one way or the other.

My guess is the Homepage attracts less experienced users (yuck). Currently, there are about 1700 featured items - that may seem like a lot, but with the number of hits the homepage will get over the next couple of days, the odds are high that you would get a fair amount of exposure.

Whatever you might put in the featured items, it would have to be a real "grabber" to get any real traffic.

A few years ago the ebay home page got a lot more looks then it does these days. I use to look at all the guys selling a $10 item and how they must have thought their other auction items would get a lot more bids but I never personally looked at their other auctions.
There use to be a lot of jewelry sellers start $10,000 valued jewelry at a penny and I'd always bid till it got up to $100 to see my ID as high bidder for a few hours. Almost everything featured was the same back then too. Lose 50 pounds in 3 weeks CDs, Secrets Banned from ebay CDs, unsearched pennies or Roman coins, unsearched baseball packs, blah-blah-blah.
