There was much ado about what turned out to be nothing at tonights ComicCon Convention. The very first GI Joe Figure (the prototype actually) went up for auction via live, phone and internet bidding tonight with an asking price of $600,000. Unfortunately no one was interested in paying that much. The opening bid was dropped numerous times until someone finally chimed in. Final bidding topped out at $245k - and for all of those that complain that ebays reserve fees are contradictory to real auctions - the owner did not sell and is expected to negotiate a private sale with the high bidder at a later date.

Even prototype GI Joes aren't worth that much in a weak ecomomy? Someone must have made a bad estimate with the $600K figure they hyped before the auction.

600k starting bid,how many collectors can afford it??\\
why cant he start it at one penny as fluffy does and see where it goes??

Stop - it went to 245k but since he had a 600k reserve he was not obligated to sell

you are right, his reserve is 600k,but-------
Even cutting the minimum bid from $600,000 to $250,000 failed to interest the approximately 30 people who attended the auction at the Comic-Con International convention.

``I'd be dishonest to say I'm not disappointed, but tomorrow is another day,'' said John Petty, director of auctions for Heritage Comics, which organized the event.

Stop - it didn't get bids at 250k but it did take a couple bids below that topped at 245K. There was a story on it last night on the news here. (right after the story explaining why it was impossible to get anywhere downtown yesterday because of all the ComicCon goers - these crazy people are everywhere!)

Well, I don't blame the owner for holding the price. It is the only one of its kind & is the original GI Joe. When they put GI Joe into production they changed the mold slightly to improve the facial features.

If you are the buyer please ensure that your cats are locked away, just in case the seller drops it off on your porch at 10.00 p.m.

Ya, that was good for a laugh but did anyone notice how mysteriously that thread just disapperared from the entire board. What happened?

I don't think so. There have been other threads with links to "that" board that were never pulled.

I think theres a little more going on here than that.

I really let both our laid off moderators and the OTWA boards have in a few of my posts and sig file. The mods or pinks are not here constantly any more but they do visit the boards once in a while. I'd bet more than a few bucks that Crystal or other OTWAns complained to VD about the thread and got it removed.

Please explain. Why would Crystal and Otwans complain about a thread that isn't even on their board? The person that started the thread was on this board.

The thread here was discussed heavily over there. Most of their regular posters consider this board a form of trailer trash and it is refered to as " over there ". The thread here was not nice to their board and new policies ( that generated a lot of suspension over there ). That must have been why the VD mods erased the thread here.

HAHAhaaaaaa, what suspensions? From what I gather there where none. Just more hot air from Crystal.

Most of their regular posters consider this board a form of trailer trash and it is refered to as " over there ".

LOL, when you consider that most of them are just refugees then thats funny. At least this board has some life and not spending all day in group hugs and prayer meetings.
