I've received that one before. What really stands out is that I haven't bought anything on Ebay in a long time, and it's the bidding and buying priviledges they are restricting. You would think if the writer knew I was a Powerseller, they would work that angle to get info from me. Also, the https bit is very convincing, and I can see where a lot of people would fall for it. Once again, if you ever receive an email from " Ebay " and it has a link where you can enter a user id and a password, IT IS BOGUS. Ebay will ALWAYS direct you to the home page to initiate any contact with them.

I have to confess that I actually bit on this one the other day. Didn't fill in my password or any vital financial data, but gave my name, phone no., and address. As soon as I'd done it, I felt awful and realized I'd bit. Should have just gone into ebay and seen if my info was up to date or not. Now I'm worried something awful will happen. Yikes.

Roadsmith...If it was only your name and phone number they wanted don't worry. It could be a lonely winner of the California lottery looking for someone to share his wealth with

They want your credit card number. You can have fun with this guys and put in bogus information or even things like " FBI IS WATCHING YOU " on the form.

Thats the one I got the other day, too.
I read somewhere that if you post to a message board that you are more vunerable to these type of things and all of your info is out there. True? Even here? Where you need a CC to post?
I tried that ghost surf software but forget about it! Its like fort knox, but you cant load up any pages because of the blocking so what good is it? If you are on the internet at all you're pretty much sunk at the chances of being a victim of Identity fraud. They say that is the fastest rising crime right now and they cant even keep up with it. Scares me to death, but I am still on the net. Good thing I dont have much to steal...hahaha...
p.s. was wondering where fluffy's been these days...) ::hi fluffy::

ESPECIALLY here!! I no sooner remarked that I felt left out because I hadn't gotten one of these emails and they started!! ( and I mean within HOURS!)
Now i get them at the rate of about 1/day - I don't post anywhere else! I think this is more than a coincidence!

Well - paranoia or otherwise it hasn't stopped me from posting here..in fact, I wouldn't have even known a bogus eBay email from a real one if it weren't for this board.
The important thing for all of us to remember: do not go to an ebay/paypal link provided in an email to sign in! use your own bookmarks or go directly to the homepage by typing the URL yourself and :WHEN IN DOUBT - FORWARD THE EMAIL TO [email protected]
