Hi: Can't remember who told me about this booksellers' group on Yahoo.com. I signed up for it and then noticed that it *appears* that my real e-mail address will show whenever I post a message! I didn't see any way to opt out of that (and just use my user name there) so I backed out fast.
If you subscribe to this group, can you explain for me? Seems dangerous to show the real e-mail in this time of spoofs and scams.

Yahoo has over 150 million email accounts. You create one and use it for a special purpose and abandon it. Your main Yahoo email account should be treated differently of course.
Make a Yahoo email account for the group.
