I just listed a candy dish....went up less than 30 mins ago. I have had two emails wanting to buy it now. One said they want it for their fiance's wedding gift and the other offered $20.00. What's up with this? Is it worth a lot more than listed or what? I have had offers where people wanted to buy it since it didn't sell before auctions end but never while it was still going on.

How is anyone supposed to give you an informed opinion without seeing the item?

Because of the two very fast inqueries on the dish I'd say it may have some hidden value and would never sell it early. ( I wouldn't sell it early anyways ) The two emails could be related.

yeah paws, ACE is right. give em' the old "in order to give all bidders a fair chance" line. If they want it, let them bid and wait for the auction to end. JMO

Your dish was made by the Imperial glass company. Its pattern is called candlewick. I don't remember seeing a covered dish like yours. Be careful they are making new candlewick.

That piece is Candlewick, and not a very common piece at that. Let it run, it'll bring a lot more from a collector than it will from a bottomfeeder.

Yes I thought the emails might be from the same person. I don't think eBay puts their ID in the email or I might check it out further. I checked on both names on the emails but nothing came up. Checking the properties didn't help either.

There is no way I will end it early! The first email didn't offer me a price but the second one offered $20. No Way. I think it will go higher than the $20 anyway. I checked out other dishes like it on eBay before I listed and didn't see anything else like it. Most were undivided or just one division and none had the lid.

I know this is old because it came from my Aunt's house. She never bought anything except a TV and radio after 1970. Walking into her house was like stepping back in time. She had a lot more of it but I just got this one piece. I may end up having the rest mailed but don't know if it's worth the shipping costs.

Did you post it as a BIN? Is this a bidders bin? Let the auction run if you didn't put BIN on to begin with.

Just had the first emailer say his girlfriend bought one like if for $45.00 and would gladly pay more just name my price. I'm considering going in and raising the opening price.

No I didn't do a BIN because I thought it was worth more than I had an idea of and wanting to see.

A BIN or Fixed Price auction format should only be used on a very common ebay item and never such an item as this. You done good Paw ( sounds like a line from the Waltons TV show? ) by not offering a BIN on a collectible.

Auction Ace======

That is a lesson I learned on this board. I usually do the BIN on the common things or something I just want to dump. On something like this I don't really know what it's worth so I will let the bidders decide. I think it would have done better if I had waited until Sept. but need to get some things moved out since my "ebay room" is driving me crazy.

I was going to go in and raise the opening bid but I already have a bid from a guy who buys a lot of candlewick. Hope it does well for me.

I found this auction while checking the category out earlier. This seller obviously didn't know what they had. I'm sure mine dish won't get anywhere near this price. Hope I did the url right.

Do you have this listed in the Imperial>Candlewick category now? I didn't see it when I checked which was right after this thread started. If not, get it in there now and tell your bidder you moved it.

I didn't until bigpeepa told me it was made by Imperial Glass. I went in and changed categories to candlewick. It wasn't showing up last I checked but eBay probably hasn't updated the page yet. I am sure glad eBay will let you change categories even if it has a bid. I have had to do this before when I found a better catagory for an item.

PS. I hope I don't get the emailers in trouble for saying I had two people ask me end the auction early. I think ebay moderators (or whatever you call them) must read this board. On other threads when an auction is mentioned with something weird it is taken out of the valid auctions.

Don't worry about getting them in trouble. You didn't identify them. In fact, their inquiries are what tipped you off that you have something that is more valuable than you thought and by starting this thread and getting it into the best category, you'll be in a better position to get a higher price. It'll enhance their bottom line and they'll pull in their claws. I showed the picture to my wife. She has been a Candlewick collector for years. I've never sold a single piece of it. She keeps every bit of it I acquire. I just hope she doesn't find room in our already bulging china cabinet for it. Otherwise, I may be facing a choice of a starvation diet or buying it

I think there is another seller with the same bowl listed now with 5 days to run (unless that is you paws) - the picture you posted here is much nicer though! In fact - i'm sure it's not you because it was listed before yours and had a bid before you started this thread..here it is (hope my link works:

Paws, I don't know if it my computer or what? but I can't read any of your type on that items page. The background makes it very difficult to decipher anything.

Not mine. Guess my emailer hasn't seen this one yet or he would make an offer to them. Thanks for the compliment on the photo. I sure try to get a good one. All the people who have given advice on taking the photos have reaaly helped me a LOT.

Must be your computer. I guess you mean on my auction page you can't read the description. I don't know what is up with that. I know I went in yesterday to change something on my description on another auction and the description text was over the photo. When I refreshed the page it was ok.......don't know what that was! Don't know if it's the new templates or ebays problem.

I just took a really good look at the auction you have the link to, thanks for finding it. Her dish has straight sides and a flat base. Mine is tapered on the sides and has a base that is different. I don't know if it is a different maker or just different style. It will be interesting to see what price they both end at.
