doohickey?? I's over 50yrs old & unmarked. Has a diameter of 4.75" with a heigth of 1.75"

It's hard to tell.
But from the look of the rolled lip & the green around it I would think it's copper.

can you make the bottom flex by pushing with your thumb?

If you can copper would be my guess.

It almost looks like an insert into a fancy ashtray that can be emptied. The main ashtray have been very ornate but the actual tray for holding the ashes could have been plain like this object.

It's an aebleskiver pan, anybody knows that!

Designed for ONE big giant lonely aebleskiver... Figure about a cup and a half of batter for this baby!

Or maybe it's a litter box for a generally condescending, obnoxious and disparaging cat...

It's a training spitoon for preschoolers. Gotta get them pointed in the right direction when they're little, or they'll never develop proper social ettiquette when they grow up.
