I can't come up with anything interesting to describe these glass items. I've thought they could be ashtrays... but then again, maybe not... Maybe something that would hold a flower, but then again - maybe not. They lay out with a wide, open mouth and end with a twisted or looped end of the glass. It looks like it was free formed, thus hand-blown.

The brown one measures 10 inches long and 6.5 inches wide. It lays on its bottom and stands about 2.25 inches tall. It is a hefty 1 pound 14 ounces.

The green one is a similar design, just smaller. It is 6 inches long and 4.24 inches wide. It weighs only 9 ounces.

Any of your thoughts on what these might be - or if you've seen them before - would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wayne

I agree!

But that should translate in to mucho moola if we're to believe several experts who have much more experience than I here.

However, I might just include "Ugly" in the headline....

Get (or borrow) a black lite and look for the acid etched signatures or marks, on these pieces. I believe you are dealing with some pieces of Studio Glass Art, which could be worth well over $100 a piece! ....................................................... or they could just be recycle art, made from melted down beer bottles!

Thanks for the suggestions - especially the black light one. Hadn't thought about that.

I guess if I can't find an acid-etched signature, I can still list it as:

Studio Glass Art-like in style... Would that be an accurate description or would you consider that misleading?

I recently saw something similar. It was a coke bottle that had been heated and formed into a puddled type of shape. They went to great lengths to preserve the painted Coca-Cola logo. Yours looks like beer bottle art glass.

I would think along the lines of candy dish.
Or just decorative glass.

Personally, I think they're beautiful. Especially the first one. They look like leaves. Candy dish maybe?

I think sparkz is onto something here. Note that they are indeed the color of beer bottles.

Puddle glass would get my attention in a title.

Their size might indicate they are servers of some sort, or fruit dishes, cornucopia-type things, or just something interesting to set on a table. Do try the black light.

Okay - got the black light. Only cost about $3 at Home Depot.

What should show up if, indeed, these are acid etched by their maker?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and ideas here. You've opened my eyes to a new way of looking at these pieces and gave some great ideas that will help describe them when listed.

Hope everyone has a very productive and profitable week.

Kind regards,

Wayne

If it helps any, the heavy style and shape reminds me of Italian 50's-60's art glass. Try checking Italian art glass in an eBay search.Very Retro!!

JMHO--I wouldn't call them ash trays. Ash trays are just not popular. Candy dish? Just Art glass. Stylized Modern leaf shape?

I like them too!!

I've seen these types of things years ago. There are abstract art pieces of some kind. Taste in art changes from decade to decade.

If they're etched on the bottom(water mark) you should be able to slowley rub your thumb slowly over the bottom and it should show the mark. It is hard to see if there is one but that should work.

Oh ! OH ! I've seen things like this before. If the bottom foto is deceiving me. They should be for the same purpose. I have seen thingsl ike this before for use with roses and flowers with no stems or very very short stems. There is even a name for these. Floaters ??? I think that's what they're called or something slmiliar to that name. They are used at very elegant parties along with candles
