Okay, I avoid Albertson's like the plague but since I was in dire need of food I was forced to go there this afternoon. On my way back I stopped at a yard sale. Couldn't resist this neat little vase. Of course it's not marked.
If I describe it as a figural vase will I have egg on my face?
I have no clue who might have made it. It looks pretty old. A heavy piece, I don't think it's from Japan, nor do I think it's an aebleskiver pan or escargot dish...

I think you are safe in calling it a figural vase. There are collectors for frogs out there so be sure to put "frog" in the title. I think it's cute, Lucy!

Very cute! I'm sure a frog collector would appreciate it. Your "quicky" photos are great - what kind of material do you use for the background?

All I can say its cute, and like the others say, there ARE a lot of 'frog' stuff collectors out there
And about Albertsons, I absolutely hate it, they never have enough checkers, long lines, my brother was standing in the 15 or less line for 15 min one time, while the checker went through the Albertsons news ad paper with a customer and just chatting! He put his basket on the floor and left, said he'd never ever go back there. Me either. I have called albertsons.com and had them deliver once though

I am a frog collector, and I have this same vase. I bought it on ebay about a year ago, where it was advertised as a new, majolica-type piece. I think it was around $10. I've never seen it anywhere else, which is surprising, because there are lots of frog collectors out there.

Evening all...
Annie, I use unbleached muslin for my background. Works very well, especially since I painted my eBay room purple! Yeah, purple... Ended all the excess yellow in my pictures.
NearTheSea, between Trader Joe's and Smart & Final, I generally manage to avoid Albertson's for months and months at a time. Today was an exception. Geeze... I hate that place!
Miles, the lady I bought it from said she had the Man version but it had gotten broken. Do you have that one? I don't think this is a new piece. Could be but I don't think so. Majolica? That surprises me. Seems too dense to be Majolica.
Tom, yes, sometimes froglets have yellow faces. Sometimes doglets have black and white faces. Sometimes Alexandrine parrotlets have blue or green faces. Sometimes aebleskiver panlets have NO faces, kinda like escargot dishlets. You nut!! LOL!
Searching for Majolica Frog on eBay I came up with this auction. Sorta kinda looks like my Lady Frog except she has human-type feet and, as Tom so kindly pointed out, a yellow face. Too bad mine's not signed. Darn...
I hope Miss Piggy has a major hissie-fit! Never could stand that puppet. Was FORCED to endure some of her shenanigans while my kids watched Sesame Street.

Very cute! However, it is not old majolica. It is a copy of majolica..The vintage majolica is not heavy, and the base is different from the old majolica. If it were old, it would problably have a number on it in script. These were usually originally made in Germany or France. Hope this helps!

Lucy...One thought just occurred to me. If you list it and state up front you don't know for sure it's origin, you will probably get a few emails from collectors telling you exactly what it is. You could revise your description during the auction. You may want to start it out as a pre approved bidders only auction to prevent any early bids and preserve your option to revise. You can always change it to a regular auction later. Then again, you may want to start it as a regular auction and let the frog collectors fight it out amoungst themselves.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Lucy, that is one funky vase. I like it!
I hate Albertson's, too. And their prices are higher than, say Stater Bros., which is where I usually shop (not much choice here).
If you do list it and get e-mails from collectors telling you what it is, I suggest strongly that you copy and paste the e-mails in here for comments from the experts before you go about changing your auction. (And maybe you already had thought of this!)
When I was first starting out, I changed one auction 3 times as new messages came in, correcting the LAST change I'd made. . . .
Are your grandkids still with you? How did it go? They are awfully lucky to have you for a grandma.
