I recently acquired several Avon Decanters with mostly after shave. These are all older decanters and I have not heard of several of the men's colognes. If there is anyone out there who has been an Avon Rep for several years (maybe decades) or anyone who knows about the men's colognes, please help. I need to know the years or approximate range of years these colognes were for sale through Avon. I used to be a Rep in the mid to late 90's but never heard of these. The colognes are:
DEEP WOODS, WIND JAMMER, OLAND, TRIBUTE, AVON BLEND 7, TAI WINDS, EVEREST, LEATHER AND SPICY. Thanks to anybody who can help me with these. Meowmix71

My mother was an Avon rep in the late sixties to early 80's. On ebay almost all Avon decanters are valueless. Avon is the ultimate story of mass-produced collectibles.

AuctionAce is right. I bought two boxes of these bottles at an auction for very little, but after I'd researched them on Avon I turned around and donated them to a thrift shop. There might have been one prince in those boxes of frogs, but I didn't have the patience to work that hard. Won't hurt you to do a little research, though, if you have the time. Just type in "Avon bottles" on ebay and see what comes up. You never know!

Avon Dueling Pistols go for a few bucks. I remember that many collectors were certain these would be worth way over $200 in 30 years time.
I sold a bunch of my mother's decanters in large lots a while back. You're lucky to get $1 each in large lots. Donating them would be better and I even threw out a bunch.

I was a rep in the mid 70's and most of these fragrances are from the mid to late 70's.

i have seen large boxes of these go for $5-$10 at the local auction house. a few of the rarer ones might get a few dollars. the pistols, the samurai knives (gold flashed with jewels), come to mind.

good luck with them.

There used to be an Avon collectors club, yes, I was in it, and the stuff sold briskly back in the 60's and 70's. However somewhere along the line interest died out. I have WAY too many of those bottles left. Oh well, they 'display nicely'. P.S. I also have hundreds of Beanie Babies. I will learn someday!

pmelcher I doubt if we will ever learn. When someone says collectible we all look. I don't think you can compare Avon Bottles to Beanies. At least Avon didn't sell themselves out like TY did. My opinion about TY is that they made their money but didn't want the "collectors" or resellers to make theirs. I didn't collect beanies, thank goodness, or Avon Bottles as I was allergic to something they put in their fragrance. I really doubt that Avon thought that their bottles would be valueless in years to come. When TY quit they knew they would be valueless.

Ty has not quit. They are still selling, still introducing new lines it's just that people finally regained their sanity and stopped paying $1200 for a 1 year old stuffed animal. Ty was a lesson in brilliant marketing. They made a fortune and have created long lasting brand recognition. I never collected but even I have a couple pieces (that I paid retail for) that were too cute to pass up.

Since thrift shops and low end "swap meets" here in So. Cal are full of Avon bottles, would doubt that anyone would pay the shipping charge for any of them. Think one would do better at a yard sale provided the bottles are full. Believe Avon started putting these out in greater numbers in the 60's at the height of the "collectable" bottle craze. There is a bead artist who takes bottles, including avon and grinds them down to make jewelry with them.
I sold Avon for 3 months back in the early '80s. I couldn't tell if I was at a sales meeting or a hitler youth rally...spoooky.

The hardest part is telling these Avon bottle collectors that their collection the the hundreds of dollars they've invested in the collection is only worth a few dollars.

A close friend was an Avon dealer for several years. Some of the things they made besides decanters can do quite well. There were many very limited edition items made, some of which were not offered to the public but to dealers only. AA you might help me on this but I seem to recall that Avon's predecessor was California Perfume Company, and many collectors have pieces that are marked CPC which can be quite collectible and bring pretty good prices. I personally have done quite well on some of the Avon steins, especially in the weeks before Christmas. Every one of them, because of the theme styles, are considered cross collectibles which gives you two target groups of bidders.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.
