I am sure this one has been discussed before but lets go through it again. I am flat out burried with stuff. Most of it I am trying to save for Christmas so I can fetch premium prices. The problem is I AM OUT OF ROOM. My wife gave me our small extra bedroom for my ebay stuff and it is basicly a fire hazard. I would post a pic but I am unsure how to...and ashamed as well. What dose you "mess" look like? I know I am not alone. Besides my room I have an eternal pile of stuff sitting right here on all sides of me and the PC. I tell my wife "I need it here to answer buyers questions" She is fed up with it and says our haouse looks like the Salvation Army!

LOL - I was just talking to a friend of mine trying to describe the by office right now. I told her to look in her trash can then close her eyes and image that on a 12'x15' scale. My desk and all my bins appear to have thrown up all over the floor since things that should be on and in them are spread all over.

And I seem to be missing a cat.....

Looks like it'll be an all night cleaning fest tonight.

My entire downstairs has been taken over. My Dh's office, as well as mine, and what should be the family room are wall to wall stuff/bubble wrap/boxes/peanuts. One thing that has helped me tremendously is picking up cheap shelves whenever I find them at garage sales. It gets that pile surrounding your computer desk off the floor and helps me keep straight what's listed, bid on, and needs shipping. That's not to say I don't generally have a pile of stuff near my chair..that's the stuff that is photographed and needs me to write the description so it can take its place on the appropriate shelf.

I do still find that I have to do a weekly mucking out or I loose my path to my computer! I have to keep some semblance of organization, even if it only makes sense to me and looks like chaos to the untrained eye, or I loose people's stuff and that just isn't a pleasant experience for anyone.

Oh, gee! Mine big room also is a mess, to the untrained eye--but it's actually sort of organized in areas - like stuff to sell, stuff now listed but not sold yet, stuff sold but no money yet, and my "shipping center" in one end of the room, all kinds of boxes, bubble envelopes, soft and hard packing material, etc. etc.

Most people I allow to see my office blanch upon entering, but our son, who's ready now to start selling, told me he envies me my setup.

I suspect strongly that many of us sellers are the creative types--and we folks need to have stuff, projects, items IN VIEW for a variety of reasons. Lose them if they're not in sight, and get energized and more creative when we can see our things. The idea of handling each piece of mail once, or bringing in a treasure to sell and immediately knowing where it should go and when it should sell is not easy for creative people. We need to mull things over, ponder them, turn them over in our minds over a period of time, before we make decisions.

My husband's home office is a model of neatness, pristine. If he isn't going to use a pen or pencil, it goes IN A DRAWER. (Imagine!) He is not creative; he's a policy wonk, retired scientist, very methodical. I've wished I could be more like him, but actually like myself the way I am.

I'll try to post a picture of my office when I get up the nerve. . . .Adele

ewhh.. That monkey is gruesome! However most of everything else looks familiar! I'm laughing and my husband said "what?" and I showed him the pic. He thought I'd posted a picture of my desk BEFORE I cleaned it off today (patting myself on the back) Do you have a whole stack of books off to the right side also? I can't stop myself from picking up books at sales, I LOVE books.

Hey! That desk looks like MINE! Add to my office mess the stuff generated from 17 credit hours of school, and things get pretty crazy.

Adele, my husband is the same with one exception. He has a very organized stack of ebay goods in one corner of the room. I'm like you..it might look like a mess by by golly I KNOW where everything is, what project is where etc.

Only one room? You're lucky, try 4 storage units, two bedrooms, a new shed and an old garage. Sheesh.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people

jeez... the real question is ... whose eBay room is NOT a mess! ... we do our best to keep things shoved to the side enough to not stub toes, even though that still happens when they're not shoved far enough ...

I love that monkey. It seems to be used a lot. I was just watched American Family on DVD and the Monkey was used in the first episode of that show. I have my entertainment in a wierd electronic jester egg thing that came out when Furby's were hot. If you pull on it's foot or tail it shakes laughs and giggles. Ask it a Yes or No question and then hit it on top of it's head and it says uh-huh and the eyes light up green or "nope" and the eyes light red.

Mine is a total disaster and I just cleaned mine and organized a couple of months ago. Sigh. . . . At least I know where everything is - it's in my way.

Toasted I hope you don't mind but I copied your picture to show my daughter and anyone else who thinks my place looks bad. I can look at this and say same picture different place. Thanks for sharing.

My room also looks like that but I have started to reorganize. Get rid of the totes and buy something with drawers in so that I don't have to lift the totes to get to the bottom. You know everything you want is always on the bottom. Like murphys law. You can either buy plastic drawers or even chest of drawers at your local thrift shop. I saw a dandy dresser at a garage sale but someone had scoped it up. It would have made a fine storage cabinet. Use cabinets or anything that is easy to get at. Then label the drawers. Good Luck...I think Oprah needs to zone everyone's ebay room.

LOL ! Toasted! You're so brave to show that pic!

I cleaned most of my desk last Sunday and it's already growing little piles of stuff all around me. My desk is a semi-circle and luckily I have a pull-out tray for my keyboard. Except many times I have a cat on my knee so I have to reach over them to type.

When I stopped selling in June I never did get all the ebay things packed away for the summer and now I'm convincing myself that it's okay because fall will be here soon and I'll be listing again.

Now take all your messes and put them in a 2 room loft apartment. Welcome to my world.

we have a shed, full. we have a garage, full.

I do try to keep the things inside the apt. out of sight. I have promised dh that I will not buy anything else until I get rid of some stuff. I LIE TOO!! LOL.

DH just built me what he terms 'our shipping dept', in reality the back end of our wood shed, covering one wall, floor to ceiling with 24" deep shelves and clearing off the work bench that was already in there to wrap on. Only problem is: we live in western New York state. Can store in there in winter but definitely not wrap for shipping. I scrounge boxes when I'm out shopping and have then opened flat and standing up against the wall. Under the bench is the bubble wrap and shipping envelopes...this will work. Now back to reality of my artist studio that is floor to ceiling with the stuff that is suppose to be on the shelves but hasn't made it there, yet.
You are NOT alone. Ruthie

Your desk also looks like mine also. My husband keeps threatening me to clean up the mess. He doesn''t like me to do Ebay until I made a big sell. I have found out recently if I list some of my items 3 days unload it faster and get rid of it. I am now trying to get rid of the things that are on the floor first. I have a closet in my computer room that I hang my clothing up and use the top shelf to store my goodies.

I just moved to a two room apartment to a 4 bedroom large house, and I am HAPPY. I have lots of room, but I am trying to keep things organized. Luckily, moving forced me to pack everything (fun fun, it took 8 hours for movers to move me 1.4 miles) and when I unpack the boxes, I have everything organized, shelving, etc. I am sure it will get more disordered when I start listing again in bulk. Because of the move and summer travel, I have not been listing much, but have been acquiring a lot. I will be very busy this fall.

A good rule of thumb to use to determine if your Ebay room is a mess or not is when your wife applys to the Federal Government for disaster relief funds. They will review the photos, and if a Government check shows up in the mailbox, you know for sure it's time to quit buying and start listing.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.
