Does anyone know if the Post Office charges an additional fee to cash a Canadian Postal Money Order drawn on US funds? Do they even honor them at all??

I am trying to find a way to accomodate my Canadian buyers ( I like them!) but my bank is charging me $ 1.50 for all "foreign" items even in US funds!!! I say in my auctions "paypal or cash only from international buyers" but I am not really comfortable with that!

My bank charges $7.00! I will never again take money orders or checks from Canada. It will be Paypal or nothing.

As long as its a international postal money order [U.S. funds] they should cash those with no charge to you.

You can take them to any post office.

My bank charges $7.00

Banks do vary as some charge you nothing and others do. Always cash a P.O. money order at the post office.

There is a group of countries (I don't know which ones exactly, but CANADA is ONE) that have signed reciprocation agreements with the USA about INTERNATIONAL POSTAL MONEY ORDERS!

In order to avoid fees, you MUST take IPMO's to your local PO & (with PROPER ID) they will cash them at NO charge!

Banks can (&MANY DO) charge all kinds of outrageous charges that make no sense -- except in the case of foreign personal cheques, which will not clear through our central cl;earing-houses!

Tom...Japan is also on that list. IPMO's from there are as good as cash at a U.S. Post Office. I have even had U.S.P.O. money orders come from Japan.

It might be better to use BidPay. It is as good as a MO without the hassle of IPMO. It will cost the buyer some, but IPMO's aren't free. Better than P/P, no charge backs

Does anyone know if Australia is on that list? I would love to be able to reccommend that option to my Australian customers.

i dont think australia is on the list.
bidpay is fine if buyer has a credit card and does not mind paying the fee,a postal money order is still cheaper if the buyer has the cash.

I believe it is the International Postal Union that sets it up -- you used to be able to buy exchange coupons to send to other countries to turn in for postage (this was great for penpals, etc!)!

I can't imagine AUSTRALIA (or, for that matter, any other Commonwealth country) NOT being a member??!!

The post office will also cash the pink Canadian money orders as long as they are in US funds. I found out the hard way when I received one and never though about taking it to the post office cause I always cashed the otheres at my bank free. I sent it back to the buyer the same day I emailed him and he was a little upset cause he said he sends them to the US all the time. He sent it back and sure enough, the post office took it. Just delayed the process about a week but all's well that ends well I guess.

Get a better bank.

I use both TCF and Nova savings and don't get charged the BS fees. I get payments from Japan, Australia, Canada, Germany, and others. No hassels or charges. Just simply expected service.
