I hate asking, because I suppose I should know this. But when china and porcelain and this related stuff is listed as "signed", what does that mean? Does it just refer to the fact that there is a manufacturer's mark on it, or does it related to something else? I was going to list a piece today and I saw a sub-category for "signed", but I didn't know if my piece qualified or not.

Signed means that the maker's mark is on it. Could be a manufacturer's name, an aritists name, their logo, etc.

That use to really throw me off to because I collected autographs. A piece of jewelry that says Avon on it is considered "signed" because it has a name on it. A signed painting would have to have the artist's name on it though. It can be quite confusing.

I've never had a painting to sell... but a signed painting... does that mean it just have to have the artist's name, or does it have to be a real signature? Do the printed signatures count as signed?

To me signed means autographed by the maker, but I guess that doesn't apply in this field.

No - a printed production of the signature is not a signed piece when it comes to art. A signed art piece is individually hand signed by the artist.
