OMG, how sad! I liked both of them. Johnny Cash's music is fantastic. I remember when A Boy Named Sue came out.

JR was perfect as the prissy store-manager in "Sling Blade!"

Remember first seeing him as the minister in "The Waltons."

John Ritter was so young... I was shocked to hear that he died. It's very scary that someone who must have had a pretty good health care could have something go undetected and could fall ill and die so suddenly.

I was really looking forward to season 2 of "8 Simple Reasons for Dating My Teenage Daughter" ... but I guess that won't happen now.

I loved John Ritter as the minister on the Waltons, although I hadn't thought about it until Tom mentioned it. Johnny Cash was one of the few country singers whose music I enjoyed.

With his money, I'm sure he had access to good health care, but that doesn't me he used it. I remember reading when Elizabeth Montgomery died (I think she was in her 50s also) that she was afraid of doctors and put off going until it was too late for them to save her.

ClassicRock - don't forgot to list that Saddam Hussein tape!

My sister was telling me this morning that she saw on one of those magazine shows like ET, that he just got engaged to his co-star Katie Segal.

Ritters ailment from my understanding was one of those situations that is undetectable.

Fenix, I hope she didn't see it either, going to call my sister right now. She spent a good couple of minutes telling me about this engagement.

Knowing Ritter and Segal - it was probably a joke they made during an interview : )

JR was perfect as the prissy store-manager in "Sling Blade!"

I saw the movie three times and didn't realize the gay guy was Ritter. That was great acting by Ritter in that film.

Another fine actor in that same film died at the same age as Ritter five years ago, also of a heart attact or heart problem. That would be J.T. Walsh who played the sex obsessed mental patient that talked to Karl in the hospital, both at the beginning at end of the film.

Sorry to hear about both of them.

There are about 45 new listings for John Ritter items and about 7 1/2 pages for Johnny Cash.

Edited cause I can't count today. [ edited by kiara on Sep 12, 2003 08:47 AM ]

Well, JC had a very long and exceptional career, but I don't think his death really surprised anyone. He looked horrible there at the end.

JR was obviously a surprise. I've never seen "8 ways", but the movies he was in were great- he looked completely different in Sling Blade, but I did recognize him.

You know what they say about "always in threes"... I wonder who's next?

John Ritter's death hit me hard yesterday. My brother who was 48 died in March of a heart attack, too. JR reminded me alot of him. Funny, and all-american, nice, guy. My brother was forever playing gags on people.

Really don't think John Ritter ever got the credit he deserved as a comedic actor because of three's company.

At least Johnny Cash got to do that MTV thing before he went. Always like Roseanne Cash. JC was an icon.

Earlier this week Hogan's Heroes star Larry Hovis died. He was the eccentric demolitions expert Sgt. Carter. That makes three stars in a few days.

The 3-peat is complete....37 year old SEAN KIMERLING died Wendsaday of complications from Testicular cancer. Sean was an emmy award winning sports anchor for WB 11 in NYC and a current NY Mets broadcaster. I am 37 and believe me I am "braced" for the future....or lack of it....noone gets out alive...

Never heard of Sean Kimmerling, and I don't think Larry Hovis was a big enough name to count. Wait for the weekend.

I like the rule of three better with Hovis. Outside of New York no one has beard of that news reader.

Couldn't Ritter and Cash actually be the second and third with Charles Bronson being the first?

Good thinking! We'll go with Bronson as #1.

That way we don't have to lose any more people and rule of three is satisfied.

John Ritter died of a dissected aorta. The large vessel supplying blood to his heart rips open with immediate, massive blood loss and shock. Almost always fatal and undetectable until it ruptures.

The saddest thing is he died on his daughter's 5th birthday, September 11th.

Lucille Ball died of the same type of thing. There was nothing the doctors could do.

Cheryl.... I like his "Ring of fire" and the new one "Hurt". Now that Waylon and Johnny are dead we should wish Willie good vibs as he was/is older. Then there, is Kris who is just fine. And as (Our) Jack says the beat goes on....David

Jack Jones is still with us. With his drinking history that's a miracle. One of my favorite George Jones drinking stories was told by the late Tammy Wynette who was once married to Jones. Wynette tried to get Jones to quit drinking and refused to let him drive to town to buy more booze and hid his car keys. Jones demanded the keys and Tammy refused. Finally Jones went to the barn and drove a tractor to town to buy the booze.

HURT -------- Johnny Cash

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear my crown of thorns
on my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stain of time
the feeling disappears
you are someone else
I am still right here
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Kiara - I love Cash and his cover of the song, he gave it an entirely new life in a completely different life but please give song writing credit to it's actual writer - Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails Cashs brilliance was his ability to create a completely different song than the one NIN produced within the same lyric content.
