It there a "legal" way to end an auction early and give ebay their cut? Sounds strange I guess but I was thinking there is a box to check when you end early that you and the buyer agreed off site??? I don't want to get in trouble but want to do the right thing.

Thanks guys!

Guess I should add I've had an offer that is hard to refuse!

I have never had an auction that did not end at least twice as high as the offer to end early. Why do you think they make the offers?

Hello
The auction is yours until closed. You can close auction anytime up to 12 hours from end of auction, bidder or no bidder. You will need to say why you did that. I don't contact bidders as that just opens a can of worms.

However, that said pulling an auction to sell private by someone who found you on ebay is unethical and may be an ebay ringer. Why don't they just bid? Be careful here there are lots of cow pies on this road.

What you guys are saying is what I have been thinking. I emailed the guy and said no. You can't believe the offer the guy made. I have been watching like items the last 3 mo. to see what they generally sell for and his offer is twice the amount. Plus I put a very low reserve which was STUPID of me! Reserve has been met and it has been listed less than 24 hours. I told the guy he will have to bid and hopefully it will get up to what he offered.

If you remember I ask about a candlewick candy dish w/lid I listed last month. I had offers on it in less than an hour after listing. The offers were for $20 and $75. It ended up selling for $113. I saw it in a book recently and the list price is $250 - $300. The guy who made one of the offers ended up getting it.

Ebay is my only income since I'm not working outside the home now and I don't want to lose it. My husbands job has changed recently also and we can't afford anymore cuts.

paws4- you could end the auction early and relist immediatly with a fixed price BIN at the agreed amount...send the guy the link and tell him he has 2 hours before it shows up (or thereabouts) on the general search engine. That way eBay gets their cut- you are happy - the guy is happy - and it's perfectly legal.

Neglus is correct. It's a perfectly legal way to make a deal with a buyer and cut Ebay in on their part. Just be sure to cancel all bids before you end the auction.

In this case, I wouldn't do anything unless the money was in your hand. Just way to many sellers out there that do this to their competition just to rid the auction making room for their own to be bid upon. You did the right thing by leaving it on for auction.
