I have launced 20 auctions less than an hour ago and I have already had 3 people ask me if they use buy it now on my items will I ship it free. These items were less than 5 dollars and the shipping $1.50. If I were going to give them away I would give them to charity. Cheap skates!! Just irritated me!!

Thanks for listening!

Sue

Hi
I have been running a test for three weeks on free ship (I just added postage into bid) and the results are poor. A few buyers sent money for postage anyway. Some wanted free ship on lots not listed as free ship etc. Ebay promoted this as a way to improve sales (and increase their fee) but I am phasing the free ship out as a nice sounding idea that don't work. That said likely buyer sees free ship somewhere else so wants it from you as well.

Sue,

I hope you sent them a suitably acerbic reply.

I just said no -- cannot do that!! I had made a listing error and did not price it high enough! So Since they called my attention to that, I closed the auction and relisted at double the price. Sold within one hour -- to someone who did not mind paying shipping!! Guess the person would have been better off just pressing the BIN and not calling my attention to it!!! Kind of funny how it worked out! As for the others who have been asking I just say I cannot do that but if you purchase more than 1 item I would be glad to combine shipping!! When I buy something I either pay the price or don't buy it!!

That was the smart thing to do, either no reply or a polite reply. Only a fool send a nasty reply, why go looking for trouble?

Sue,

I'm glad it worked out for you. There are a lot of potential bidders out there who will try to take advantage. Combining for multiple purchases is fine but free shipping on a Bin? I don't think so!

I agree with AuctionAce. It's better to say nothing if you can't say something nice.

Hi. I've pulled a few auctions lately with that deal. Like one of the posters said, it must have been a sales method has EBay proposed. So maybe now bidders think ALL Bins include free shipping?

I really think people bid without factoring in the shipping. It's better in my opinion NOT to include it into the price. I think it is a psychological thing, where they can claim victory and say they buy cheaper on ebay than at Kmart - of course with shipping factored in, there is no bargain to be had a lot of the time.

That's dead on. I remember when ebay proposed it months ago there was a huge outcry on OTWA's board that many buyers will think it refers to all BIN auctions. It looks like the outcry was a prophecy come true.

It's always instructional and frequently entertaining to read people who don't take their own advice.

Being somewhat combative on message board and being somewhat combative with ebay customers is a bit different. On the message boards most posters are anonymous but not so with an ebay customer or potential customer.
Why anger or rile someone that can mess with your auctions? If only one in one hundred ebays are prone to mess with auctions it's just a matter of time before your number comes up.

All I can say is, there must be enough sellers out there giving these people free shipping for them to continue asking. Myself, no free shipping ever. If someone really wants what I'm selling, the shipping is NOT going to stop them from bidding.
