As a special offer to our sellers, we will be holding a two-day Penny Gallery on the U.S. site (www.ebay.com) from Monday, Sept 22nd, 2003 between 00:00:01 PDT (12:00 AM plus one second) and 23:59:59 PDT Tuesday, Sept 23rd, 2003 (11:59 PM plus 59 seconds). Listings created prior to September 22nd, 2003 and scheduled to start during the promotional period (September 22-23, 2003) will be eligible for the promotional rate.
During the 2 Day Penny Gallery promotion:
For Auction-Style, Fixed Price, eBay Motors non-vehicles and Real Estate listings, the fee for Gallery will be $0.01. This promotion will not apply for eBay Motors vehicles, International, Live Auction, Professional Services and Store Inventory listings.
All other fees (including Insertion Fees, Final Value Fees and all other optional listing upgrade fees, such as Buy It Now, Highlight, Gallery Featured, Featured Plus!, Listing Designer, Gift Services, Bold, Reserve, extended duration insertion fees, etc.) will still be charged. The promotional rate does not apply to listings with a start date prior to Sept 22nd, 2003, including those listings revised during the promotional period. The promotional rate also does not apply to listings created during the promotional period, Sept 22-23, 2003 but scheduled to start after Sept 23rd, 2003. If you choose to List in 2 Categories, the standard insertion and listing upgrade fees for listing in the second category will still apply.

They're just trying to get you warmed up to the idea of using the gallery. Look for the gallery to be mandatory within the next year.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

This is interesting--on the heels of their total screw-up, leaving our gallery pictures out of our auctions even when we've requested and paid for them. Duhh.

I still see it the other way. Ebay may be giving up charging for the Gallery and is getting ready to make it always free. The technology is in place that there is no real expense to placing a thumbnail in the search results.

Thanks Fluffy, Been there done that, Forgot all about it, and relisted a bunch with the gallery photos. Had a better sell through rate second time around, but at that rate 3 times would not have been a charm. Might have done it again, thanks for the reminder.
