This is either an Indian or a Harley Davidson ... sorry the photo is blurry, but that's because, well, it's blurry. ... any vintage cycle experts hanging out here at vendio? ... also can you make a guess at what decade?... probably 30s 40s or 50s but I don't know which. ... thanks in advance for any input ...

Give me two minutes...Clivebarkerfan is a biker, I'll go ask him

I'm back..He asked if it would be possible to move your wording up away from the engine, he wants to see the heads on the bike.

He believes it's an Indian, but wants to be sure for you.

It's a Harley. He's thinking the motor is a "panhead" and the style of bike is an FL. Late '40's early '50's. After WWII, guys came home and bought bikes, then when they started families, they sold them off.

I like the For Sale sign...$140. I did give Clivebarkerfan a minor heart attack. He got confused and thought I found an old bike that you were selling, not just the photo!

Hope this helps!

By the way, here's an auction for a 1:18 scale version:

Are you guys sure its not a Norton?
At first glance that's what the tank logo looks like to me but I could be wrong.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Nope, that's a harley horn. And the little decoration on the front fender looks identical to the one found on a 1948 Harley. And finally, look at the motor. Nortons aren't the V-twins like the Harleys.

Now you know about as much about bikes as I do

I'm not a vintage Harley expert but that's not a Panhead engine. I think
that's a postwar (WWII) Harley 45 Cubic Inch judging by the front springer
forks and the heads and the engine case.

And I'm going to guess that the pic was taken in the mid-seventies, judging by the kid's high-waisted baggy pants and striped sox, and the stud work on the saddlebag, if that's any help to you....

Photo appears to have been taken in either the late 40's or 50's.

He was taking an educated guess. Since the boy's leg is blocking a good look at the motor, and the photo is blurred it was just a guess.

War ended in 1945, Harley was runnng the 45ci motors until 1947 when they brought out the 74ci overhead valve big twin. In 1948 they came out with the 74ci Panhead with the aluminum heads. 1946 bikes had a triple headlight set up (at least on most that we've seen).

No matter what the exact year, work in quite a few of the keywords like 45ci, panhead, hardtail, 1945 - 1948, etc. to ensure better hits.

Guessing the photo was from the 50's, cinsideering the style of clothes the boy is wearing and the price of the bike.

By the way, I think the bike was dumped at that may have been why he was selling it. look at the front end. The white wall tire has black scuffs, the fender has some dents, and the little light mounted on the fender seems to be coming out (it should match the lines of the fender.

Hope this helps

It's kind of hard to tell from the photo, but this looks like and early
40's WL model. Check out http://www.autogallery.org.ru/harley.htm or
http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/Harley/ for some good comparison pictures.
The bike in the picture probably sold new for around $350, so with a
used selling price of $140 I'd guess the photo was taken when the bike
was around 10 years old. I hope this helps. Don't you wish you had the
bike instead of the picture?
