So Ebay is introducing Subititles, for "only halfadollar". Folks will find your subtitles in a description search.
They find my other pertinent information in the description search presently for free. Another useless bell that I would be paying for.

I wondered what they would be charging for that little "enhancement" when it was first mentioned last week.

Way to steep for me! Don't think the categories where I list will be using it much so it shouldn't hurt my sales any.

Ebay clearly blew it on this one. No way is it worth 50 cents to put words in there when it should have had enough room to do it for free anyway.

The information included in a Subtitle will not be searchable through Title Search, but will be included in Description Search.

Then again it's only halfadollar

So what is the point? Unless they plan on eliminating the description search soon.

If no one does it, I imagine ebay will either do away with it, or simply provide it for free. I give it a few days, and I bet I'll get a "free subtitle" day promotion email from ebay.

Of course! It's another thing Ebay can offer for free this week so everyone will forget to turn it off or delete it for relists and they will make more money anyway.

I never take advange of these type offers. Penny gallery, etc. are just too much trouble and I haven't found they really help my sales that much anyway.

But then, it probably depends on what you are selling.

It sounds suspiciously like the Search function will be limited to titles and subtitles soon. It would cut way down on search time.

It's a business and they have to grow the revenue. If they can get a better response speed on searches, so much the better is what I'm sure they are thingking. If this is the case, $.50 is pretty steep. The rest of us are going to have to pack more bang into 45 spaces or pay for the privilege.

It sounds like description searches may go away but that would be an incredible mistake. Sellers of lots would really be hurt. I can't believe ebay would ever drop free description searches. Will sellers actually pony up 50 cents for extra title space?

SPECIAL OFFER - As a special introductory offer, Subtitle will be available from launch through the end of the year for $0.50 per listing!

They make it sould like it will ever be higher priced in January.

It does sound like it will be even higher. If so, it should at least show up in the title search.

I hope we are wrong and the description search won't be disappearing.

Sellers that use this effectively will grab the buyer's attention more than gallery, bold, and highlite put together.

My guess is it will cost a LOT more than $0.50 after the introductory period.

I still don't understand what it will get the seller. At least if they keep the old key word search too.

When I was listing tonight, I was thinking of just how much you could pay for listing with all the extras available, the bigger pictures, sub-titles, bold, gallery, 10 day listings, special backgrounds etc. etc. etc. I find I do very well just using the basics with an occasional BIN!

"Sellers that use this effectively will grab the buyer's attention more than gallery, bold, and highlite put together."

Please explain how.
I can currently have 8 pages of garbage that will show up in a description search.
You will be paying 50 cents to get one line to show up in a description search with your other 8 pages of the description.

You put "Blue size 8 widget" in the subtitle I put "Blue size 8 widget" in the decription. Both will show up in a description search. But Ebay will probably put yours ahead of mine,so big deal it ain't worth the halfadollar.

By starting out the subtitles at half a buck, and leaving the door open to an increase next year, they are going to have to make them indispensable to a seller. The only way I can see, at present, they could do that would be to eliminate the description search. From their point of view, this would make a lot of sense. It would increase revenue, speed up search, and virtually eliminate keyword spamming. Anyone else got any ideas as to what it would take to make you purchase this feature at nearly twice what the initial listing fee is? I think they've only told half the story at this point, and I'm not sure any of us are going to like what we hear when they tell the second half.

I agree with you sparkz, something isn't right with the new option. Maybe ebay is more naive then most of us think and they actually believe the new feature is worth the large premium.
If ebay makes the description search go away it would be the biggest fiasco in ebay history. Think of how many sellers truly need the description search to sell their stuff. Examples: a seller of computer goods has to list what is compatible to his item, a sports dealer has a lot of ten different players items, a book seller has a book about a bunch of different historical figures. The buyers won't find squat and the sellers won't get bids. It won't work.

Ace...I couldn't survive without description search and I'm sure there are a lot of others who couldn"t also. I hope I'm wrong on this one.

I agree if they end description searches, it will be a disaster!! Sometimes you don't even know exactly what you are looking for and have to Hit it with a description key word search.

They are having a super long disussion about this on the 'other' board and there was not one single mention of ending the description searches in any of the numerous posts so maybe we all just jumped the gun a bit. ( some posters even like the new option somewhat ) I hope ebay never even considers the possibility of ending the description search.

BUYERS must have lots and lots of time! In 7 years on eBay, I've NEVER done a description search, I can only imagine the zillion of returns such would generate. With that thought in mind, I, personally, wouldn't be interested in paying for a "subtitle," which I doubt would bring in one more buyer.

At 50 cents, what a ridiculous rip off.

THIS REMINDS ME OF A PROGRAM I JUST SAW ON TV, ABOUT WHAT GAMES TO PLAY IN VEGAS, AND WHAT PARTS OF ALMOST ALL GAMES ARE "SUCKER MOVES." IT seems to me that paying for something I see no return from a MAJOR SUCKER BET!

I think I have done mostly description searches in my five years on ebay. Sellers often can not fit vital info in the 45 character title and if a buyer were to only use title searches they would miss all of those auctions. To limit the search results on a common search you can just enter more and more criteria.
