Hi
I had a buyer that took forever and a day to send payment and who is no longer a registered user with ebay.
Question is, after 45 days I got her money order and now I need to return that to her because I re-sold the item. Do I return the money order (needless to say that it's made out to me) or cash it and send her another one?
Thanks in advance

Personally:
I wouldn't cash it.
They could say you received payment and never sent item.
I would write VOID across the front and return it.

And send her .37 less!
They could get her money back at the place of purchase.
Also if they didn't or couldn't get their money back.
It would teach them a lesson: If you snooze you loose!

I believe that either the sender or recipient can cash a money order. Is her name on it as the buyer? If so, return it and she can cash it wherever she purchased it. After all... if a money order is lost the sender can usually file a tracer and get their money back.
I wouldn't worry about writing void, though you can if you want. Just return it, don't cash it. Otherwise ask her if she wants to buy something else from you.

There is absoultely NO way you should cash the money order, and send her a check back, if you can not ship the item. Either send it back to her, or keep it and do not cash it. If you cash it, you might find yourself dealing with a problem you don't want to deal with.

If you return the money order, she will be able to cash it with no problems. I've done this myself before. Just *don't* write void on it, because at the very least it will make it a hassle for her to cash.

What happens if the seller sends it back and it gets lost in the mail? At least with the personal check getting lost in the mail it is not such big thing.

Thanks everyone!
OK, now it makes sense for me to me just return her money order.
Maybe I'll spring for the $3.85 Priority Mail so I can prove she got it back if a problem comes up later!
Her name is on it as the purchaser.
I never had this happen to me before so wasn't sure what to do and if she could cash her own money order.
Thanks again, much appreciated

Do not cash the money order. If you do, then legally you are accepting payment for goods and can be held liable. Spend the 37 cents and put it in an envelope and send it back stating the item was sold because of delay's in payment. Even if it gets lost in the mail, if you do not cash it, you won't be legally bound to come up with a product. You may get a neg, but at least legally, you will be ok.
