Hi,
I read the post asking for advice on a good sniping service but like one other person commented, I am concerned about giving my id and password over...Does anyone know of a verified or otherwise secure site or which has the best reputation etc.? I would use it to bid on auctions that close when I'm away and that I feel will go for more if bids are made early. Of course, I also hope that it may reduce losing to a bidder who outbids your max at the end by less than a dollar...I think I'll make a suggestion to Vendio---they know your info already and it doesn't seem to pose conflict of interest issues...hmmm...Thanks for any input! I have used AuctionSniper (www.auctionsniper.com) with no problems so far. I think your first 5 are free and then it's 1% cents per snipe based on the final auction price. I don't usually use a sniper any more. Sometimes it's just fun getting the bid in yourself at the last minute.

Thanks for the info Cheryl! I am embarrassed to admit that I bought auctionsniper software through an ebay auction a while back...I paid extra for a "CD" because I believed that it didn't require giving them your password...sad, but true. I'm sure it's around here somewhere and I will look into whether or not it's still active or rather if I can still activate it. Thanks again for your help! Glo

Auction sentry is a sniping software that resides on your computer.

http://www.auction-sentry.com

Download and bid away. No final value fees. Only put your user name and password in the program not to a third party.

You do need an internet connection with broadband being best.

From the earlier post, I thought you were worried a scrupulous programmer could have the program send himself your user name and password and compromise your account. I have been happy with Auction Sentry. Also, I can have it watch one, or more of my current auctions, and have it play a sound when bids are placed.

It is kind of fun.

I just started using Auction Sentry. I was happy enough with it to send the $15 to register after the free 7 day period. Unlike web based services your password is on your computer only. However since the bid is coming from your computer and not a web robot, you have to be careful not to use to use too short of a buffer. Set it at 30 seconds, my actual bids average about 20 seconds before the auction end.
Upgrades come automatically and are included with registration. You can use it to track auctions you are not bidding on as well.
And the sound effects are cool too.

You could change your ebay password after each snipe if you snipe infrequently. You'd have to update the PW at the snipe site before each new snipe.
There's still a few free sniping sites left.

I use Esnipe too. It's a set price per winning bid. If you don't win you don't pay. I like it. Support staff is really nice if you ever have to deal with them too.

my 2¢,

Rob
