Recently had a newbie with no feedback bid on one of my auctions. At first I was a little suspcious, because the bidder was winning a lot of auctions for some high priced stuff. My fears were a little alleviated after he started to get some positivie feedback. He's now a plus 4 with no negs (which may change very soon). Anyway, it's over one week and he still hasn't paid for the auction. So I'm on the verge of filing a NPB alert on this guy when I receive the following the email from him:

------------------
i have not forgotten this, i have been very sick and out of work so no paycheck. i do really want this, i will pay as soon as i get back to work and get a full paycheck. i don't get disability when i'm out of
work. xxxx
------------------

Hmmm. I would have an easier time believing this guy if he hadn't placed bids on items on the same day he sent this. So I file an NPB alert on him anyway and then send him an email telling him that it's just a formality to recover my Ebay fees if I don't receive payment in 10 days. If I do receive payment in 10 days, he has nothing to worry about. Well, he replies with this email:

------------------

i was on vacation and spent tons and expected to pay for everything as soon
as i got my paycheck from working. then i came home sick and dont get paid when im out sick. yes, i am new and i have learned that i should not depend on my Next paycheck to pay for items. i learned a very expensive lesson.

i only get paid 2x a month and it looked like to me everyone gets 10 days to
pay for items so i though i was safe.

because i was out sick i get a really small paycheck not enough to pay for my purchases until the 31st when i get a full paycheck and everybody is really mad and i don't blame them. i want what i ordered but i really messed up because i cant pay until end of month and nobody can wait for that.
xxxx

------------------

Okay, so if this guy doesn't have any money to pay for all the auctions he's won since two weeks (which is well over $1,000), why is he still placing bids even as we speak? Either he's a terrible liar or a few cards short of a full deck.

This sounds a real loser. NPB him & move on. If he has this many auctions outstanding, he will get NARUE'd soon.

Either way, just proceed as you normally would, ignoring all excuses, pleadings, dead relatives, etc.

None of it matters. It would be amusing to hook this guy up to a lie detector, but on eBay actions speak louder than words.

Out of curiosity, why don't you ask him why he continues to bid if he has "learned a very expensive lesson"?

I think it's almost unanimous here. A new twist on a very old excuse. File for your FVF and move on. If you find out later he was telling the truth, you can always reverse it, but don't hold your breath.

The key is not not get hung up in the tangled web of buyer's BS stories. Investing time and emotion in lose-lose situations is not a good move.
