What about sellers ending their auctions early if there is no bidding activity (similar to live auctions where an item is "passed" if there is no reasonable interest)?
Does eBay get upset when this is done? I have seen some sellers put this in their listings (in order to prod snipers into earlier activity).
I saw that ebay will investigate abuse of this when bids are cancelled, but will they respond to complaints if seller ends no-bid auctions?

My personal learning curve: Ebay does not really care.
People who were planning to snipe, now for some reason those folks emailed me with complaints.
I did it trying to figure out pricing on some items.
One guy reported me to ebay, and I heard nada.
They got all their fees.

The auction is the sellers property bid or not until auction closes. If you want to pull a auction do it. Ebay does have a log on you showing how much you pull auctions and why. I pull three or four a year usually because of errors, (double listing etc) and have never a word from Ebay.

I just didn't see this listed as a legitimate (according to eBay) reason. They seem to be concerned with evading reserve fees (the auctions I saw had no reserve).

There are some that seem to do it regularly, and even note it in description.

I personally think it should be allowed (in conjunction with extending the ending time 15 minutes after the last bid). Ebay could even offer an option that if no bids after x days, auction cancels. Things like this might put some of the excitement back into it, just like live auctions.

Tons of sellers get cold feet and end their auctions early when there are no bids. It's pure profit for ebay as the listing fee still counts.
One of the drawbacks of sniping is that a seller can end the auction early and the snipe never goes off but if the bidder had placed a bid the seller may not have ended the auction early.

Decided it was time for another bout of eBaying before winter, so I listed four auctions last night with a statement about ending early if no bids. All four auctions had bids this morning.

Don't know if that was the reason, but hey, if it helps...

eBay does not care. Does the telephone care if you hang up? You save nothing by closing early, plus many auctions get all their bids in the last few minutes (they really do).
Republican, the other white meat!
