Any Americans selling on eBay UK?

Questions:

Is there anything special you need to know or do to sell on the site?

I'm assuming it's not against the rules, so long as you list with GBP pricing?

I sell on ebay.uk all the time. There are quite a few products that sell much better and for much higher prices than they do in the US. In my case I have a seperate account just for my UK listings as well as a Works account that I list from (they can list directly to the UK site). No special tricks. The one thing I have learned is that they are leary of getting gouged on international shipping so I work that into my price and offer them "free" shipping. I use BidPay for all of my payments although I just found out that my bank will accept bank checks and money orders in GBP for only a slightly lower exchange rate than I have found elsewhere so I'm opening that option up to my buyers more. They are used to PayPal if you don't mind the risk and I have only dealt with one true twit - but that was... of course... a newbie.

Enjoy the UK! BTW - just for kicks I've been including various "Greetings from San Diego" postcards in with most of my orders and have gotten lots of great feedback from customers from them at a cost of a whopping 20 cents each.

Realplay, I tried it once. Didnt get any bids on what I listed, but shortly thereafter attracted a really peppered English chap on one of my USA Ebay auctions. He was delightful to transact with! One of my best ebay experiences.

Fenix:

I have been reading up on the FAQ over at Works, and came to the same conclusion. A second account would be the best way to go. I had assumed there was probably a better way, but it's good to know I'm not crazy.

Are there any other benefits you have had with two accounts there?

Fenix:

One more question specific to Works, which may look obvious, but it's got me flummoxed.

When you fill out the shipping cost information, you get fields for American cost, Canadian Cost, and International Shipping Cost.

Which do you use for UK sales?

OBVIOUSLY they are International shipments, but since we have to set the default currency to Pounds, I was wondering if it would not now be considered a "local" sale from their point of view.

Which shipping field is correct to use?

Thanks!

The major advantage I have found is that there is no fee confusion when swithcing between listing currencies and that a seperate Work account allows that GBP liting. If you use the reports though, be sure to convert your item costs into GBP as well.

Personally I don't use the shipping options since I include shipping in the item cost. If it were me though....set you auctions up as ship to UK only then use the basic shipping rate leaving the others blank. I have found that most people - including me to be quite honest - are not big fan of the Works click out and really don't use it much. I don't think I have had a single UK bidder use it. I customized my WBN to reccomend using BidPay, stated that payment should be made in USD and gave xe.com for current conversion rates - I have to send a few more reminders and do a little more hand holding than normal but that's to be expected and is well worth the additional profits.

Thanks.

It sounds like I now have a new project for tomorrow.

Ever try eBay.com.au (Australia)?

LOL - yeah. they are a whole nother animal. I've also tried .sg not to mention MercadoLibre and shopped a little on MercadoLivre but my portuguese is even worse than my spanish so that was short lived. I wish I could read Chinese - I love some of he featured stuff on the Taiwan site.

I'm really showing the extent of my insomnia here aren't I.

I already feel like an idiot for asking, but what is .sg?

I just can't think of what that might stand for!!!

I tried www.ebay.co.sg, but that's not a working URL.
