Good morning all!!!

I am currently running auction 2958999454 and got an email from a prospective buyer yesterday. He said that he was new to ebay (?) and wanted a back-up camera.

I emailed him back, welcomed him to ebay and said this would be a good choice. My terms were payment by Paypal for new users.

He emailed me back and said if it didn't hit the reserve, I should email him and he would pay cash for it and pick it up. Something's wrong here...why didn't he just bid???

Could be a lot of things photoluckylucy...being a new buyer
1.he might have been just fishing for the reserve price.
2.could be he's saying if it don't hit the reserve he'd offer a price and see if you'll take it
3. might have been his way of asking could he hand pick it up to save the shipping cost.

He probably wants to get it at the beginning bid price and hopes you'll be so disheartened by its not reaching the reserve price that you'll "give" it to him for practically nothing.

As for picking it up himself, I've had buyers do that if they live nearby--but I meet them at a public, well-populated place...and take my Great Dane

Sounds like he wants the option of buying the camera at a very low ( sub reserve ) price. It reminds me of the garage sale gambit where a seller is selling a dinette set or something expensive and a looker offers to buy it if it doesn't sell after the garage sale and leaves his phone number. I can imagine that a lot of buyers get great deals that way.

I've had a half a dozen buyers or so pick up stuff at the house over the last five years and have never had a problem. It's not like they are buying $1,000 items though as most items are only a few bucks.
