Only 4 days after the close...with not even a reminder, I am paid and the following note is attached:
"Thank You for the Honor of this purchase.
I apologize for any and all perceived delays."

Obsequious, maybe...but then after dealing with the blather and storm of righteous indignation from buyers too confused by all that is eBay,electronic or bound by the laws of physics and rationality....kinda sweet to hear.
"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same from them."- John Wayne/The Shootist"(from the novel by Glendon Swarthout)

That IS very sweet! Goodness, I thought the days of extreme courtesy were over for good.

Reminds me of other apologies. I just finished transcribing hundreds of old family letters from my inlaws to their parents in the mid- 1930s. They wrote 2 to 4 pages or more each time, from Philadelphia back home to California, and they would *apologize* if it had been 3 days since last writing!

I get about 20% of all buyers that are very sorry that they took 3 or 4 days to get back to me. Those are the best emails to get.

Certainly better than the ones who are sorry because they've been in the hospital, been laid off, been in a car accident, haven't gotten paid for 2 weeks, had a sick child, had a funeral to attend...seems like we've all heard all the reasons for not getting back to us. I have someone who should have paid six weeks ago, and he's still sorry for the delay...blah, blah, blah...

Cry me a river...

Sorry...this was supposed to be a nice thread, but I'm dealing with some real doozies right now. I think they are coming out of the woodwork and going directly to my auctions.
