Last night I had some one Email me through the ask seller a question feature.
He needed a couple items I have up for auction. He wanted them ASAP! Asked if I would sell them for X amount plus shipping.
I agreed to the price, so I went in and revised the auction to add a BIN.
Then I sent the auction to him using the Email to a friend feature. This way he would know I did it so he could buy them ASAP.
Well this morning I check my mail and there is one from him asking: (How do you know me?)
Well I know you because you contacted me!
So I went in to see if I could find anything out about him AND I get the message his is not a valid I.D.

Weirdest thing!

That is weird.
If he used the Ask A Seller function he should have been a registered ebay user yet he was an invalid user when you ran the email through the Find A Member function he was an invalid user.
Maybe he suspended right after he emailed you for NPBs and he knew it was coming?

Aw dadsof, that sux! I wonder if somebody hacked his into his email account or something? Are you going to forward the email to ebay? What about the BIN? Did you want to sell it at that price?

Something similar happened to me one time. Buyer said they wanted all pieces of different auctions. Went in changed every one to BIN, then she decided she really only wanted a few.

No I'm not going to report it.
As for the BIN I changed them all back to a regular auction again. And that's where they will stay.

Hi dadofstickboy,

I haven't posted in awhile, and I don't know if this has anything to do with it but, have you gotten any spoof emails?

I have, and it got out of hand with an email address I had for years on Ebay when you could get someone else's email address. So I changed it for about a month and a half. I didn't have much on at the time, and I had only a hand full of auctions that sold, and I also had an ask the seller a question about an auction.

I started getting spoof emails again, with the new email address that I only had a month by then. I have since changed it, and have also had another ask a seller a question, and have received more spoof emails.

I know that now you have to have an auction with the person to get their email address, or you can also get it by asking the seller a question.

With getting a spoof email and having my email address changed in such a short time, now I am wondering if this is how they are getting my email address.

By the way, both ask the seller a question was "Is the a video or a DVD" Which seemed odd since both said VHS and video in the top of the the auction page in the description and also they were in the right categories.

Just a thought.

Any time someone needs one of my auctions "ASAP", I ignore the message, that might be a bad attitude but i have limited trust for people I'll never meet.

This person and I exchanged emails.
He sounded like he really wanted it.

If I feel they want to purchase and we agree on price I will add a BIN.
I never end auctions early!
If they want it they have to bid or BIN.

On this one I removed the BIN and put it back to a regular auction.

Had 2 more people ask about it told them if they wanted it bid on it!

It's just strange the way it came off!

chevytr,
Thats not really a strange question. Witness the many threads here on what buyers email to ask. They ask for size when its right there, color, shipping, etc. Either people do not actually read the auctions or they dont trust the description or Ebay process.

Good Morning Dad!
Seems to me that about half of the 'intriguing' questions that I get from thee ask a seller feature go to an invalid addy or an unaware recipient.
(not the size, color, measurement questions)
It is either some attempt at a scam or, more likely, a child/friend/spouse that's been using (with permission) an account and forgot that it wasn't initially theirs.
