Hi. Can anybody help with these patches on this ashtray? I know the one is Hell on Wheels, armored div., but what about the others? I tried one page on lyco's with military insignia and didn't see these.

One looks like the Chrysler symbol, doesnt it? maybe because this plate was made in germany?

Anyway, thanks if anybody knows what they are.

Interesting symbols. There are some people here who are whizzes on these things. I got help a couple of months ago myself. Any chance you could post a slightly lighter and clearer photo? That would help, I think.

Thanks!!
Roads, I'll try. I had just washed the piece so I think so water got on my lens or something. Maybe I will just let the description ride with the 2nd armored and the one Tom gave me.

Looks like 2nd Armored Div on the top. Can't read thje others too dark & one has a glare on it. If you redo your pics & shoot one at a time it would help.

Sanmar, thanks. I will try to rephotograph it but I really need a better camera for small closeups which I've been putting it off purchasing (but good to read all the threads on digital cameras.)

Wondering though, the back of this ashtray says, "Winterling, Bavaria, Germany 55" -- should I try two catagories as I saw in one my books that stuff from Bavaria is collectable?? Dont know if its more toward military interest or china from Bavaria?

According to my husband, retired Army:

All US Army insignia. From the top, clockwise:

2nd Armored Division

9th Infantry Division

5th Infantry Division

Can’t tell from photo

5th Army Corps

Hard to tell from photo, but if there is a red “1” in the center, 1st Infantry Division

4th Infantry Division

Center – 7th Army

I know you were not asking for a critique on your photograph but as a long time photo teacher I can't help offering it. I think the problem is not water on the lens but camera movement. A brighter light or resting your elbows or the camera on a solid support should help.

That said, the newer digital cameras are fantastic if you can treat yourself to one.

photo, thanks for the advise. (I appreciate your posts regarding photography as a experienced photographer.)

It may have been an unsteady hand but if you look closely at the ashtray you can even see the water spots/smudge/smear. Can't you ? I can.
Here's a better picture not so hurried! :-0

Thanks again to TammySue for identifing them!!

I usually just place an ashtray on the flatbed scanner and it works great and is super fast an easy.
