Is anyone else having problems with winning bidders not getting their EOA notices? I have some bounce back to me and others just don't make it and buyers email me asking why I didn't contact them. It is driving me crazy. I use the eoa notices that ebay emails me and click on the buyer's name so the email will have the auction # and title in the email to them. I have also been sending out invoices through ebay.
Is there an easy solution or do I just keep sending two notices?
Thanks!

It's a little extra work, but I send new e-mails to my buyers, titled "From your ebay seller: (Item name) (Item number)." Most of the time these are getting through. Edited to add: This week I began adding, instead of the item number, "please reply." Got through to everyone. (I don't use all caps anywhere.)

The ones that really irk me are the ones who have hotmail addresses and have their hotmail filters set to "Known senders only." No matter what you do, you can't send them an e-mail ( and of course they are the first to complain that you didn't contact them. )

gk4495: That's something I didn't know.
Do you know how the filter behaves? Does it just silently nuke incoming mail from unknown senders, or does it bounce it back to the sender?

I've notice a problem, too. Some get bounced back, some do not. In my auctions I state: Due to an inordinate number of non-responses to my winning bidder notification (WBN), you must contact me within 3 days of auction close if you have a spam blocker that will prevent receipt of my WBN.
I'm hopeful that covers my backside should bidders accuse me of not contacting them.

I get sick and tired of it as well. I have about 800 orders a week and consistently it is the people who have AOL... I hate that company so much. They all act like it is our fault..if that is the case then I should have more problems but most servers are fine. AOL is the worst, hands down. I have tried altering my EOA every which way for 3 yrs and still. I even called my server a few months ago and asked them specifically which words are tagged and he faxed me a list (I am listing the list below.) and still AOL filters them and dumps them. Now, don't get me wrong, not all AOL bidders have the problem but of all the problems, AOL accounts for 75%+.
I spend about 20 minutes a day or more answering just the emails that claim I never sent them notices. Very frusterating. But haven't a clue how to get around it.
I do know a couple key words you don't want to use are: (If there are two or more words they would have to be used together to flag the spam filters.)

I too have been having an increasingly difficult time sending e-mail messages. AOL is definately one of the worst... but also have seen problems with hotmail and earthlink. However, after doing research, I've found we're definately not alone! There are all sorts of sites out there with advice on how to beat the spam filters. Here's a link to a bunch of them:
http://www.paulgraham.com/antifilter.html
I especially liked the "20 Ways Opt-in E-Mailers Can Outsmart Spam Filters" site. Or, if you click on the "Spam Check" link it will show you how to send your e-mail to a free service for evaluation. I just tried it and can't wait to see the report! I hope it helps!

I did the spam test and cleaned up my WBN as recommended by the link you posted. My original score was 6.8 and cleaned it up twice and came back with a 5. According to them it should get through, or at least has a much better chance. Thanks for the link!

There's a thread over on OTWA about Verizon.net blocking all RoadRunner emails. The problem is getting worse and worse with IPs blocking other IPs.

Paws4god,
Glad to help! Did you send your EOA to the [email protected] address? I sent them mine this morning... and just am wondering why I haven't gotten a reply yet. (especially if you did and I didn't). Hmmm... maybe their servers ID'd me as SPAM... wouldn't that be ironic! (I did include the word TEST in the subject line as they requested). Oh well... hopefully I'll still hear from them!

I got mine back within 7 seconds. Did you remember to put test in the subject line. It says if you don't it will be deleted as spam. Try it again!
I went back to the page and can't find what I clicked on. Another window opened and had an email address to click on. When you click on it an email automatically comes up with TEST in the subject line. You copy and paste your letter there and send. The test results come back within a few seconds. The email address is [email protected]. Be sure to type TEST in the subject line. Hope that helps. Still looking for the link I clicked on to open the window.

It is the link that eauction did, the paulgraham link. On that site is a link that says "Spam check". Click on that and you can check your EOA letter.

Paws,
Thanks for the response. My e-mail doesn't seem to be going through. I did it just like you did, (3 times now) and still haven't gotten any e-mails from them. Either their ISP is filtering out my message... or mine is filtering out theirs. Arrggghhh.... what a twisted world-wide-web we live in...
You know, it really makes me wonder if SPAM filters would hold up under Legal scrutiny in regards to the first ammendment. It definitely IS censorship... and it is restricting free speech. I understand that the ISP's are trying to do this for "better service" to their customers.... but they're doing it without the customers explicit request. If I WANT to be able to receive ALL messages (including SPAM) that is sent to my e-mail address... I should have that option. (and I think it should be the default option!) Anyhow... the whole thing is just frustrating... and I expect it will become a greater problem in the future!

Maybe Ebay should consider adding email accounts to your membership. I can't see any other way around this mess without having to buy extra software. I have enough crap on my computer.

Mine is an odd one. He was registered from Sept 2000 to Oct 2000 under one name and then from Oct 2000 to now under another and has no bidding history. According to Ebay I am the only one he's ever placed a bid with. He's never sold anything either. It would be just my luck especially with $91 on the line.

Did you go to the paulgraham site. My attempt at creating a link didn't work. I did go to the site and copied the information below. Maybe that will help. You should get an answer right away not matter what your email says if you put TEST in the subject line. Anyway here is the info.
Use SpamCheck to keep your e-mail out of the trash!
Send us a copy of your e-mail newsletter or promotion and, in seconds, we'll return a "spam score" and recommendations on how to decrease the odds of your e-mail being filtered.
To use SpamCheck for free:
1) Compose your text or HTML newsletter
2) Send it by e-mail to [email protected]
**Very Important: Make sure the subject line starts with the word TEST -- if it does not, our software will interpret that e-mail as REAL spam and delete it (so you'll be waiting for the report for a long time).
3) In a few seconds, you'll receive The SpamCheck Report. Make the suggested changes to the content of your newsletter in order to lower your score, and try SpamCheck again. (We delete your address right after we send each report, respecting your privacy.)
SpamCheck is a standard feature integrated into the MailOut module of Site Build It! (SBI!) -- the unique, all-in-one site-building, site-hosting, and site-marketing product. SBI! makes it easy for you to build a professional, popular, and profitable business.

I got the following reply:
(3.3 points) Forged mail pretending to be from MS Outlook
(0.8 points) BODY: Message is 30% to 40% HTML
(0.7 points) RBL: Received via a relay in unconfirmed.dsbl.org
(0.1 points) BODY: HTML included in message
WHAT DO THEY MEAN FORGED MAIL?? I use Outlook Express and Roadrunner. As far as I know my mail is not pretending...or is it? Anyone know what this means?

I got so frustrated with an AOL buyer..he has emailed me twice asking for total on auction..twice I sent him the total and an eBay invoice..all bounced back "this user is not accepting emails from your account"...so I went into the auction and replaced the image with this one:
