If a buyer never receives his purchase and he paid through paypal are they protected by paypal insurance or do they have to take it out separately. His item had postal insurance so I am going to get the forms but I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is still in transit. I mailed it Oct. 30 to Los Angeles. This is only my second lost package in 3 1/2 years. I don't think that is a bad average.

I guess this is one reason I require insurance on most of my packages.

I am sure that this has been addressed before but I had to ask.

They are only covered by paypal if they purchased the protection.

The P.O. will do nothing till 30 days have passed.

Thanks dad I was just in PayPal reading. I do have a full guarantee and I know this is dumb but I will refund if he didn't receive it. But, I also require to have insurance on my packages as to CYA I didn't use delivery confirmation because if the package shows delivered the insurance will not pay. I had this happen. A buyer paid for priority mail and DC was on it. Not eDC. It was insured but It showed delivered and the post office would not pay and of course I would not either because the buyer gave permission to the postman to leave packages on her porch if she wasn't home. Now that was stupid of that buyer. I hope she has changed her thinking about package delivery,

Libra,
I always put DC on my packages.
You don't know for sure that they received their package or not. You cannot trace it.

Suppose the person did receive it and are just saying they didn't, hoping the insurance will cover the cost or you have to refund since you cannot PROVE you shipped it.
I am assuming this item was less than 50 dollars?

This is how some (dishonest) buyers get the best of both worlds.

Maybe this person really did not receive it, but always put DC. Then you are protected with PP from a chargeback.

Insurance for over $50 has a signed receipt anyway.

Insurance does not prove receipt to PAYPAL in the long run.

My buyer is not whining. All he did was write and ask if I mailed it for sure and on what date. It was a very nice email.

I have proof of mailing as I have the insurance slip with the date. postal clerk's initials with the city and zip code. The other post office I go to the clerk writes the name of the person with address on the back like they are supposed to do.

Since I started using shipping assistant I found that at least 4 have never gotten into the system and about 5 were never scanned at the final destination. So then what do you do. I find this system puts you between a rock and a hard place. You can't win for loosing.
